College FB coaching changes thread
Figured any discussion of this could go here. Saw on ESPN bottom line that Mike Gundy has talked with Tennessee about their coaching position.

Re: College FB coaching changes thread
I wouldn't have expected Gundy to leave. Might be his agent dropping his name to get a pay raise.

That move has Rich Rod 2.0 written all over it. As much as it might be nice for OSU to potentially take a step back with a new coach, I would hope he's smart enough not to jump on that job.

Gundy reportedly interviewed with Arkansas as well.
Rumors are that he and the AD don't see eye to eye and he's looking for more leverage within the athletic department (and probably a raise/extension too).

Michigan is a much more elite program than Tennessee. Gundy has already been coaching in one of the top conferences in the country, the B12 to SEC jump is not like the Big East to B10 jump. He also wouldn't be trying to completely change the culture at Tennesee like Rich Rod was at Michigan, and Tennessee has been terrible so replacing Dooley is much easier than replacing Carr.

If Gundy did go at least his color of his wardrobe wouldn't change much. -

Home state native and former player takes over as head coach at his alma mater. Takes said alma mater to the brink of a national championship game only to be de-railed by an unlikely upset. Coach then leaves program where he is beloved and would have a long leash with fans due to his deep roots in the program. Coach takes over a perceived better job but will run into issues (trying to change offense/culture, turning around from terrible recent seasons) while dealing with a fanbase that will have zero patience.
How much more similar do you want it to be?

Re: College FB coaching changes thread
I see the RichRod comparison to an extent, but Gundy was one of the best players in OSU history, RR was a role player, Gundy was a legend in Stillwater before he was a head coach. RichRod bounced around coaching at several schools before WV, virtually all of Gundy's career has been at OSU, he was groomed to be the head coach at Okie State, I see him there for a long time.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan. -
Re: College FB coaching changes thread
Gundy is OSU's CPR; I'd be surprised (and saddened) to see him leave.
I haven't heard too much about Malzhan, but haven't really been keeping up with things over the weekend...is he still a top-candidate at those SEC schools?
