Re: Hawaii
I like Hawaii and am a big fan of Colt Brennan. Yes, it's difficult to judge their talent based on some of the other teams they play against. However, Brennan and his receiving corps seem genuinely scary. You knew once they got the ball back at the end of the game that they would have no problem moving it downfield and scoring with ease.
Brennan's got good footwork and can often allude defenders for a gain or at least long enough for his receivers to get open. Then his arm strength and accuracy is ridiculous. I mean, the announcers even downplayed him completing 20 consecutive passes! "This is the first time Brennan's seemed in his groove tonight...I mean, I know he threw 20 straight completions, but..."
They'll get their chance to prove themselves. I think they are better than Boise State was last year.

I don't think Hawaii is the best team in the country, but they are the only team that deserves to be in the title game. Actually, Stanford finished ahead of Washington in the conference, FWIW.
18 D1AA teams played harder schedules than Hawaii this year. If you start rewarding teams for playing schedules like that, just wait and see how horrible non-conference schedules will get.

Re: Hawaii
Did anyone hear the Hawaii coach on ESPN about 15 minutes ago? I missed it, but the ESPN crew couldn't stop yapping about it. Apparently the Hawaii coach was ripping on another quarterback/program.

Last year he threw for more Yards and Touchdowns, then both the OSU QB (Smith- Heisman Winner) and the Michigan QB (Henne) combined.....

Re: Hawaii
And Brennan couldn't play for Florida because he'd actually have to face a defense every now and then.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

Sure their schedule is soft but they got no love for the same reason an undefeated KU team was not feeling the love...their name is not USC, tOSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, OU, or any Florida School. If it was and they had the EXACT same schedule and record there would be no question they would play for NT. Do you think a 2 loss KU team is still in the top ten??? No WAY.

That being said, Hawaii's schedule is WAY worse than even Kansas'. Sure Kansas lost to the best team they played, but Hawaii has struggled pretty badly against most of the top half of their schedule, which roughly equates to the middle to bottom half of KU's schedule. It's impossible for ND, Texas, OU, Michigan, USC, tOSU or any BCS conference school to play a schedule as weak as Hawaii's. If they did, they wouldn't be playing in a BCS conference, and wouldn't be taken seriously either. KU has the weakest schedule of any team in a BCS conference at 88 (according to Sagarin). Hawaii is 137. Those teams aren't "not feeling the love" because they aren't big names, they were not feeling the love because they had horrible schedules.

On one hand you have a team like Kansas PURPOSELY trying to find cupcakes to schedule to take advantage of their already weak conferece schedule. On the other hand you have Hawaii who gets bought out of two BCS road games, then tries to schedule every team in the top 40 and gets turned down... I tend to side with Hawaii.

Again, how does Fresno State manage to do it? Their reputation before the season started wasn't much worse than Hawaii, and they managed to get Texas A&M, Kansas State and Oregon. They're still the third best team in that conference, but had they won all their games, they'd certainly have a claim at the NC, even with a 93rd ranked schedule.
I think there's something not quite "right" about Hawaii's claims.

I think there's something not quite "right" about Hawaii's claims. Fresno State had the same problem when the had David Carr, now that they don't have a gamebreaker then can play anyone... I think alot of BCS coaches don't want to man up when a non bcs team has a gamebreaker that can cause problems... Pete Carroll straight up said he wouldn't want his young secondary to have to try and match up with Hawaii.
