Penn State's football coach- Bill O'Brien

What a complete jerk this loser is, huh?

He goes to Penn State after this huge scandal hits, and then tries to get all of his players to stay there and not jump ship. Then praises all the kids that did decide to stay there and stick it out with him and even talked about what high character kids they were to stick it out.

Then, after one year there, he starts interviewing for NFL jobs and threatens to leave. So Penn State ups his pay by 57% for one more year to entice him into staying, at least for one more season.

These guys are just total pieces of moral garbage. It's just unreal. He attempts to get his players to stay with Penn State, and then he threatens to leave after one year there. I lost all respect I had for this guy.

Don't really agree with this... O'Brien was hired before the actual sanctions hit, and the sanctions were much more than I think anyone expected. He did a great job coaching and kept the team together this year, but knows that next year will be more difficult since he's graduating seniors and recruiting is likely suffering. His great job coaching this year may be lost in the next few years if PSU struggles. It's no different than what most of us would do. You have the chance to strike while the iron is hot. If O'Brien fails in the next few years, Penn State won't really hesitate to get rid of him, so why should he stick around in a bad situation now?

Its not like he is making a lateral move. Hes got a shot at the next level, why wouldn't u take it?

That is college football for you. If you are a good coach, you will get noticed by bigger and better opportunities. That doesnt mean O'Brien is a terrible guy. It just means he wants what is best for him and his family.I dont necessarily agree with that, but thats how it works.

I do not agree with you. Coaching is a business just like any other job and if there is a better opportunity elsewhere, then that coach is free to move on.

I do think the NCAA should allow players to do the same however without penalty. So, if the coach leaves and a new coach comes in, then any player should be allowed to leave to go to another school without sitting out a year.

I thought it was wrong at first when I heard of interviews but you look at it and he is an NFL guy at heart. Penn St. was lucky to get him in the first place when he knew they had sanctions coming. The guy is a great coach and I hope he becomes attached to PSU and stays there for a long time because he is a great coach.

Yeah, but the players aren't allowed to do this. They were allowed to leave Penn State last year without penalty due to the scandal, but now they would have to sit out a year if they decided to leave.

Bill O'Brien doesn't have to worry about that. He can go wherever he wants to and not miss any time, and leave all his players screwed over that committed to play for him.

Is Bill O'Brien allowed to do this, of course he is. He can do whatever he wants. All I'm saying is that he's a complete and total d-bag of a guy to do it. He sat there and told the kids and their parents why they should fulfill their commitment to Penn State and do the right thing. And then he himself doesn't live up to his end of the bargain.

I understand he's allowed to do this, it doesn't make it right. I wouldn't be able to live with myself doing that to those kids.

He won't be that hurt. He has the #1 qb coing in next season. Espn did a great job making them into a feel good story. And now PA is fighting the NCAA on their behalf over the punishment. No shame up there

Who could blame the guy for listening? It's an NFL head coaching gig, the highest level you can reach in football coaching...of course he's going to explore his options

any coach who moves up in the world does the same thing

players can still leave without penalty, at least all but last year's freshmen, I think. Because the ruling on punishment came down so late in the summer, they were given an opportunity to leave before the season, and then they get it again, this off-season. After the 2013 season starts, normal transfer rules would apply, though.
