Unexpected players declare for NFL draft

Mike Davis of Texas Longhorns to enter NFL draft - ESPN

    Pokes' Randle says he's NFL-bound - Big 12 Blog - ESPN

Tom Wort of Oklahoma Sooners to enter 2013 NFL draft - ESPN

Tennessee Volunteers' Justin Hunter, Cordarrelle Patterson, Tyler Bray opt for NFL draft - ESPN

Is it just me or does it seem like a lot more players are leaving school early to declare for the draft this year? I'm used to guys projected to go in the 1st or 2nd round to leave early but most of these guys don't seem like they'll go that high.

Anyway, that's my opinion. Interested in your thoughts.

Completely agree with your opinion. It seems that a lot players in the mid-to-late round projections are going pro this year.

However, it seems like freshman and sophomores have been getting more and more attention lately, possibly/probably even better and better. Look at the last few Heisman years. If you are a junior QB right now projected 4th or 5th round, you may still be projected 4th or 5th round next year as well, since one can assume that A&M kid will go pro.

Randle is one of the top rated RB's. He is projected around the second round which is pretty good for a running back. The two Tennessee WR's are actually projected pretty high. The others, I dont think are projected too high. I dont understand it, but it is their choice.

Oh yeah, I totally agree it's their choice. There are more circumstances to the decision than just whether you'll get drafted in the first 2 rounds or not. From the articles, it sounds like the Texas receiver needs to make some $$$ to help his family and the OU linebacker sounds like he wanted to be done with the Sooners. I'm just not used to seeing this many players declare early.

I thought I saw the Tennessee QB was fairly high too.

Last year over 60 guys left early.

I don't think Randle is unexpected.

I've seen Bray projected as #1 for the 2014 draft. With Barkley and Wilson struggling this year he could jump up the board pretty fast.
