Manti Te'o's dead girlfriend = hoax?

claimed he met her after a stanford game in person...not buying his story of being a victim at this point.
media dropped the ball with no research. not surprising.
Will Tim Tebow take a backseat on ESPN with this story until the draft?
Katherine Webb may be a real person, but I am not sure she has real parts...

JMO Opinion but I think it would have been easy for someone to pull off.

1. He supposedly met this girl after the Standford/ND game - she is a Stanford student
2. They start talking via social media/text/phone
3. She decides shes not interested but it would be funny to mess with him.
4. Right before his first Senior FB game and right after his grandma dies, they pretend the girl dies.
5. Boom ultimate head ****

I am willing to bet it was the girl on facebook and denied everything to deadspin to avoid making her look evil.

Do you have a story where he claimed that he met her after the Stanford game? Not questioning you, I've just been looking for it.

So she really was a girl he knew, not really a true long term, serious GF.

I really do think Te'o was in on it.

However, I'm just confused. He could have had any girl on campus but made up this hoax to get publicity instead (possibly for the Heisman or draft stock). If he knew this girl was fake, was he getting action on the side from ND girls? Serious dedication to the hoax if not.

This is the article where the father is quoted as saying Manti met her in Hawaii several times and that they were convinced she would become their daughter-in-law.

This is a very incriminating statement. Manti apparently pretended to meet her. Either he punked his parents, or his parents are in on it as well.

Also, this reporter for the South Bend newspaper will be out of a job tomorrow.

LDS rules on dating and chastity are pretty strict. Either he was in on it or some pretty nasty people took advantage of a very naive young man. I guess he couldn't arouse any physical desires with an internet girlfriend.

If he really wasn't in on it, someone had to call about the death I guess pretending to be family? If Notre Dame really was investigating this, I'm guessing they could track down computers and phones unless Stanford pranksters went all "Burn Notice" with burner phones.
