It's ridiculous to say there's no way a team 35 spots ahead in RPI can't be better. You're a cartoon.

As long as Iowa's rip stays under 100, which they shouldn't, it shouldn't be considered a bad loss...

Re: Iowa vs Purdue
I don't know how any Iowa State fan would cheer for ISU. Maybe I've just been around a little longer than others, but I never, and I mean EVER, want Iowa to win in anything. Ever. I root against them against every single team. If they could lose every game ever played, that would be ideal.

Re: Iowa vs Purdue
This was an expected loss. Iowa will start 3-7 in league play and then finish 7-1 to end 10-8 and 21-10 overall. They win the first in the Big 10 tournament and they are in for sure. I actually think they make it if they lose first round as well.
Iowa will beat Minnesota & Illinois in Carver.

Re: Iowa vs Purdue
I thought Iowa played hard and did a good job of defending a team that basically could not make an outside shot. I didn't watch the second half, the first was painful enough.
I just hate the way the big 10 games are officiated. It looks like there have to be 4 fouls down low before they can actually call one. In the first half guys were absolutely beating on each other. I had to laugh when the announcers criticized a Purdue player for fouling someone after riding him all the way up the court the same way as when the foul was called. If the foul had not been called, then they would have been glowing about the great defense he was playing.

Re: Iowa vs Purdue
Iowa let a big one slip away, their schedule is about to get more favorable but this one may be one to look back on. They are essentially competing with Purdue, Illinois, and northwestern for the last couple big 10 spots. This would've been a very big win.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan. -

They got 2 against NW, Nebbie, Purdue, & Penn State. They should win all of those. Maybe lose 1.
Also think they'll beat Wisky at home (possibly on the road also....they beat them twice last year), Illinois at home, and possibly Minny at home.
I think they easily make the NCAAs. Originally Posted by isuno1fan They will. Hell, they beat like 4 last year. I really think like 75% that Iowa makes the tournament. Iowa will beat Minnesota & Illinois in Carver. You've been consistent about predicting Iowa will make the tournament even if you've picked a few individual games incorrectly, but it's do-or-die time for them now. If they're going to go 8-3 for the rest of the way, they have absolutely ZERO room for error. With 11 games left, I think the likelihood if getting an "unexpected" loss is pretty high, which will require a high-quality win to erase; the problem is that Iowa probably won't have many opportunities for a win like that. The Illinois game won't mean nearly as much as it would have a month ago (even if Iowa wins it), and Minnesota's skidding pretty hard, too. Winning at Indiana would obviously be huge, and beating Wisconsin again would be solid...but it's very possible that Iowa might not even play more than one top-15 team for the rest of the year.
Their soft schedule is a double-edged sword; they can wrack up a lot of wins and make their record look good, but they also run the risk picking up a devastating loss or two, digging themselves into a hole that they can't climb out of.
I like your prediction--it's very ballsy--but even with Iowa's weak schedule, they're really going to have to play a 1.5 months of rock-solid basketball if they plan on pulling it off.

Iowa loses. In other news, the sky is blue.

I hope they head to the NIT, but it seems universal that the talking heads say the Big 10 is the best conference this year, regardless what we think. If they finish .500 or above, they will have a VERY good chance of getting in the tournament. Will see what happens. They may stumble and their cushion is very small for sure. Right now I still think they make it.

Re: Iowa vs Purdue
Barring a total collapse, they'll be featured on the Selection Show. It could be a very dramatic show in that sense, if Iowa's bid (or lack thereof) isn't announced until late in the show.

Right now I still think they make it. I agree that even a mediocre record will look good to the talking heads because "it's the Big Ten", and if Iowa finishes with 10 wins they'll be a strong bubble team at worst...I'm just not sure they'll get to 10 wins. Even if they win one or two upsets against Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Indiana, I think there's a good chance they lose at least one of the 7 games they "should" win (PSUx2, NUx2, NW, Purdue, Illinois).
Banking on going 8-3 to climb out of 9th place in the Big Ten is not a position I'd want to be in, no matter how easy the teams are I'm playing.
