IA/ISU Football Game
I didn't see this posted, if it has been go ahead an merge. Big Ten to boost number of conference football games - chicagotribune.com
The B1G is for sure going to 9 conference games, and the rumor is that 10 conference games will be essentially guaranteed if expansion goes beyond 16.
One of the WVU expansion "experts" tweeted this yesterday: MHver3 @ MHver3 Getting reports from a source at Ohio State and a source at Penn St that BiG will meet in April to vote on 2-6 members. MHver3 @ MHver3 UVA is a lock Not saying these guys are credible, but there has been speculation (straight from the mouths of B1G ADs/Presidents) that 20 could be the stopping point for the B1G.
If the B1G goes to 20, I'd be willing to bet the ISU/IA game would end....which would be a real shame for the state.

Re: IA/ISU Football Game
Why would anyone want a 20 team league? You wouldn't even play half the league in football, and you'd have to extend the conference season in basketball just for one go around.

It wouldn't be much different than the relationship that is emerging between the SEC and Big 12 in football.
I agree, it is dumb. The Big 10 is going to water down what it had going for it. The problem is everyone will think they have to keep up with the Joneses.

Re: IA/ISU Football Game
I think you would see the Iowa legislature step in and require the game if it was in an real danger of getting dropped by one side or the other.
Good times on Hawkeyenation.com after the 2010 Wisconsin Game! -
Re: IA/ISU Football Game
Meh, whatever. Take your ball and enjoy your 20-team conference.

Re: IA/ISU Football Game
20 teams??? why stop there? let's just not have conferences. Man makes the big 8 look genius!!
If you take away first base, they'll just go find a new ballpark to play in. -

Re: IA/ISU Football Game
I wouldn't mind seeing it go away. It's a game we are suppose to win and only hurts if we lose..... We might as well schedule Central Michigan.

On the other hand, the BOR could easily withhold money unless "competition between the two major universities continues at a level which brings the state together, yadda yadda"

Listening to those WVU fools who claim to be experts is a huge waste of time. I wouldn't burn a brain cell discussing the stuff their 'sources' put out there.

Re: IA/ISU Football Game
The name will be really silly at this point, let alone the commercial to help us remember the divisions.

Re: IA/ISU Football Game
Game isn't going away. I'd place a large wager on that being the case. Even with 10 conference games it will still take place.

Iowa's inflated athletic budget relies heavily on 7 home games. With 10 conference games, you are sure to have 5 home and 5 away, and the remaining 2 games would have to be home games for Iowa. They would either have to cancel the series, or reduce their head coaches salary.

Re: IA/ISU Football Game
In a way, it doesn't matter. We can replace Iowa with Central Michigan, Toledo, Nebraska-Omaha, Idaho, or any small school and keep our strength of schedule unreasonably high.
