Gotta be a tough decision for Doug. With his dad being so wealthy he doesn't need the money like most players do but at the same token the time is right for him to leave. On one hand you want to play out your senior year with daddy and continue to help him but on the other hand the draft is weak and Doug's stock will never be higher.
I hope he declares but I certainly understand the difficult decision he faces.
I think he's an absolute steal in the early to mid second round (38th-43rd) where a lot of projections have him. Many players drafted mid second round never even make a team, compared to most early to mid second rounders I think McD will have a very productive career barring injuries.
Who has him going that low? NBAdraft.net has him going #19 overall: 2013 Mock Draft | NBADraft.net Personally I like to see kids stay in school as long as possible because it makes the college game so much more entertaining plus I think outside of basketball you grow up so much more as a person by going through the rigors of being a college student. That being said Doug's stock is as high as it is going to get and moving to the "new" Big East he's going to go up against even tougher competition so either he sees that as a new challenge where if he dominates again it only helps his stock or as a risk where if his numbers fall off a bit he falls out of the first round. I think you go to the NBA, you are close enough to a degree you can still finish it but the guaranteed money you get as a 1st round pick can set you up well for life even if you don't make it in the pros.
I dont know how its a question. He isnt going to be any more "ready" next year....He will be drafted higher this year = more money. His success or failure in the NBA has nothing to do with staying another year. There is nothing that he can do that he hasnt already done that will improve his draft stock. It can only hurt.
As far as the NBA....I would look at him making at least 2 contracts in the NBA. Even Adam Morrison has done that and he is way more NBA "worthless" imo.
Very, very tough decision. Leave early, Dad is one step closer to getting fired. Stay for your Sr. year and the Big East could expose him and his stock could plummet. Decisions, decisions.
Yeah, I think the Big East move would be the only reason to consider staying. Dominating the MVC for another year would be pointless, but if he can make the transition to the Big East and keep producing his draft stock would go up. Of course the Big East will be a shell of itself next year, Creighton/Nebraska fans keep forgetting that.
