ISU mention in Mich. State-Texas game
The announcers in the MSU-Texas game were talking briefly about ISU-MSU and how great of a game it was. I only caught part of it but one of them said how nice Tom O'Neill was to Eustachy. "He told him you better leave..." and then they were interrupted by a play.
Yeah, they were real friggin nice when they were stealing that game from us.
I hate Michigan State and I hate Auburn Hills. That is all.

Michigan State is playing/winning another "neutral court" game in the Palace at Auburn Hills. -

Yeah, I knew the ISU/MSU game would come up while watching this game. Had to explain to the girlfriend what significance that game had on ISU basketball, especially considering how highly regarded those two teams were at the time, and were likely playing for the national championship in that game alone.
My, how times change. -

At least the court isn't green this time...

Re: ISU mention in Mich. State-Texas game
I saw a 30-minute show on MSU's championship season on one of the ESPN channels. Izzo says that the Iowa State game was the toughest they played.

My, how times change. For fear of committing blasphemy out of ignorance, was the "significance" anything beyond likely winning the national championship that year? Did it have any further-reaching repercussions.
True and Valiant
I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

So I did that by playing basketball across the street in single digit temperatures in my shorts and t-shirt for an hour. Still had steam blowing out my ears.

Re: ISU mention in Mich. State-Texas game
When Texas was up by about 10 early in the game I said, "how long before they call a "blarge" and get MSU back into the game"? Flipped the channel, got side tracked, came back, MSU up by double digits before half. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Unfortunately, I did accidently break my tv after that game -
Re: ISU mention in Mich. State-Texas game
I just smashed a bottle of beer, tried to tear down a parking sign outside Larch Hall, and had to talk to Ames Police twice that night....but no arrests!

Re: ISU mention in Mich. State-Texas game
Did ISU finish 2nd or 3rd in the final poll that year? I know I was none too pleased and quite possibly sounded like I had a sudden case of Tourettes, but I didn't break anything. -

Did it have any further-reaching repercussions. I started typing a long response about how great that team was just because I love reminiscing about them but I won't go into all of that. I don't see any way there could ever be a Cyclone team I like more than them. Basically they just came out of nowhere to be, at the very least, one of the best 2 or 3 teams that year.
They worked so hard and had a final four (and based on how MSU tore through the rest of the field, a national title) within their grasp when some very questionable officiating and a few bad breaks took it away. It just seemed like a team like that earned a better finish. Next year they pretty much out-toughed everyone to another Big 12 title but then Baylor and Hampton happened and it's been more bad than good since then. It's hard not to wonder "what if?"

I think they were 3rd behind MSU and the national title game loser (I believe Florida), their highest ranking of the year.
