    Re: OSU's team speed

The main reason OSU got beat tonite was that LSU beat them upfront....they pretty much beat OSU at there own game. Props to LSU. OSU will be back, this was the year they were supposed to be down.

Great football players are not born; they are made by great football programs that recruit the only two things you cannot coach: size and speed.

    Re: OSU's team speed

Both teams had guys with speed but the overall team speed (position by position) was dominated by LSU. A previous post indicated that LSU beat OSU up front and that is true...primarily because of better speed...none of OSU's o-linemen could catch up with Ricky Jean-Francois.

As I have said previously...increasing the overall team speed at ISU is mission #1 for Chizik.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

You know, I wish everyone would just get over this whole "well, Iowa almost ran the kick back for a touchdown. First, they didn't, and almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Second, Iowa held, blocked in the back, name the illegal activity on the return - the game would have been over on the penalty. Third, to me, it looked more as if we sent 5 guys down into coverage and sat the rest on the goal line to PREVENT the touchdown. When the Iowa returner was tackled at the 20, was he tackled in front or from behind? I thought he was tackled in front...

I agree, I honestly didn't think there was a huge speed difference on the field. I just thought LSU's offensive and defensive lines mauled the crap out of OSU.

    Re: OSU's team speed

Speed was not the reason for OSU's loss. They have plenty of speed.
When guys are WIDE open, and it's pitch and catch, it wasn't a lack of speed for why these plays worked. LSU won because they had a better game plan, play calling, and execution. A big quick D-line doesn't hurt either.

Isn't that speed impacting the game? When I watched last nite it was as if LSU's D-line was in the faces OSU's O-line before they could get out of their 3-point stance, which is really sad since the O-line has the knowledge of the snap count as an advantage. LSU's offense may not have been quicker than OSU's defense, but LSU's defense was significantly quicker than OSU's offense. Thus why OSU couldn't move the ball most of the game.

    Re: OSU's team speed

I'm not taking anything away from the d-line, because they had a heck of a game, but there were a few times that they got to the QB because he had to hang on the ball longer due to the speedy corners from LSU.

A few times the LSU corners were sidestepping with the OSU receivers on a sprint, thats pretty impressive. Nice to be able to lock up the receivers and have 8-9 guys in the box...

If you have guys on the corners that have both speed and know good technique along with a safety that has some speed and can hit...you can do a lot of blitzing / stunting up front to create havoc for the offense to have to deal with. I am certain that this is what Chizik wants to do at ISU.

    Re: OSU's team speed

After watching this game I come away pretty impressed with OSU's coaching staff that they got them to this point to play for a title with better than average, but not great lines....the other thing that is hard to figure in here, is that LSU had not been this healthy all year, and they still won the SEC. Thats a good job outta them.

I'm an OSU fan, and so I was comparing them to the '02 team, and the D-line is nowhere near where it needs to be. Gohlstein is good, but he's no Will Smith. Anyways, OSU's incoming class has an average rating of 4.8 stars according to travman23, so I look for big things yet to come.
