Media (specifically ESPN) Coverage of the BCS

I just had the opportunity to watch the SportsCenter replay of the postgame from the BCS Title Game for the first time. I think that ESPN is struggling with both expertise and bias in their coverage.

Expertise - For Chris Fowler to say that LSU played its best game last night is foolish (at best). LSU's best game of the season was easily a 48-7 pounding of Va Tech (that actually was not as close as the score).

Bias - Look at their expert panelists...Herbstreit (Ohio St. player), Blackledge (Penn St. player), Corso (long time Indiana coach), and Howard (Michigan player)...is it any wonder they are slow to concede that Big 10 football is not very good anymore?

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

That's certainly one person's opinion. They did play a heck of a game last nice, minus a couple plays. Perhaps VT played a horrid game against LSU? Which I certainly believe they did.

As far as the media bias - well - leave no dead horse unbeaten! It is what it is - the Big 10 losing again speaks for itself, can't spin that.

Even moreso than their bias, they are supposed to pimp the Big 10 since they carry so many Big 10 games. That's really where the ESPN Big 10 fetish comes from.

3 years ago, the Big 10 was supposed to be excellent, and when all the teams beat up on each other and all had a few losses everyone at ESPN said the league had great parity.

The Big 12 North beat up on each other, but the talking heads at ESPN said it was because of mediocrity. Only problem? Big 12 North went 2-0 against the Big Ten that year (we beat Iowa and Nebraska beat Michigan) and we beat two of their best teams. But somehow we were mediocre. Yep, ESPN Big 10 bias all the way.

i completely agree on the bias its seems like the big 10 gets a lot of coverage for how bad theyve been this year

It was funny the first time... the seventeenth time? Not so much.

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

This is Cyclone Football.

I thought Herbstreit took a shot at them when he said he thought public perception ranked the Big10 between Conf USA and the MAC. Did anyone else see this?

I didn't say LSU did not play well last night. However, last night was not the best game they have played all year...that was clearly the Va. Tech game. Yes, having seen every LSU game this year (most of them in person), that is my opinion.

If I was a real jackass, like others on this site, I would just tell you all that you shouldn't even post your opinions since you have not seen LSU play like I have...but I'm not going to do that.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

listening to herby last night, i thought he sounded anything but biased toward osu or the big 10. he said pregame that he would give the coaching edge to les miles, who has been questioned all year in his decision making. also said that if osu would lose that would verify many peoples claims about the big 10 being so weak.
