Alford article

SI.com - NCAA Basketball - Alford toughening up surging Lobos - Tuesday January 8, 2008 1:47PM

I wonder when his coaching will set in and the team will start to derail.

Remember that stressed spelled backwards is desserts!

"The New England Patriots: As annoying as the Yankess, just with 23 fewer titles."

I hope they don't derail.... I hope they are in the sweet 16 this year and next year and the year after.

the more success the more we can laugh at the UofI as a football school.

You bring up a good point. I hate Alford, but love what he did to the U of I program. He set them back 3-5 years. I suppose I hate Iowa more than him, so I'll side with you.

If he has a good year this year and next year, I could really see him leaving for a big conference again. I don't know if the Mountain West can hold Steve's Ego.

Re: Alford article

My prediction is this: Alford will have 2-3 years of success with the Lobos. Sampson will get caught up in another scandal, forcing him out at Indiana. Alford and Indiana will come together again.

I sure hope Alford lives to be 150 years old.

Sampson's History With The NCAA (Mom)

NCAA Infraction #1 -- Slap on the wrist.
NCAA Infraction #2 -- Flap again on the wrist for doing the same
exact thing.

At this rate, Sampson will never be forced out of Indiana until he retires or resigns.

Re: Alford article

Alford's success at UNM is irrelevant. He didn't have success at Iowa, and personally, any Iowa fan that cares how successful he is elsewhere needs to think about becoming a Lobo fan.

It would be similar to DMac becoming head coach at a mid-major school somewhere, and somehow had instant success, and brought them to good bowl games every year. The fact is, the coach wasn't a fit at his previous school, and it's better for both parties involved.

Now, I do like seeing Alford lose/fail because I think he's a scuzz, but that's different.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

Re: Alford article

DMac does NOT equal SA. So it is nothing close to being similar when Dan takes a HC job somewhere, sometime. What each of them accomplished is on the opposite side of the spectrum. How they ran their respective programs is, again, on the opposite side of the spectrum.... I could go on for hours about this.

Man...somebody is bitter! :)

I too would find it amusing if Alford did well down there...and am not a guy that hates on Iowa. But I would really laugh over that one.

BryceC and cytheguy could be dead-on. Can't see him staying there long if he's in the NCAA tournament a couple years.

I'm not comparing them as people or coaching styles. What I'm saying is that how they coach outside of their previous schools is irrelevant to their success at their new school.

Alford failed at Iowa. Could be because of unrealistic expectations, or just because he's a bad coach. I dunno, I don't care. I just hope Lick can get it done, just like ISU fans hope Chiz can get things done at ISU.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

I think you missed the point of SouthernHawk's post. He wasn't comparing them as far as coaching style, success, he was comparing them based on the fact that they coach at different schools now. Their success at the new school doesn't really matter to the old school because what they were doing at the old school wasn't working.

I actually thought SouthernHawk made a very good and clear point. I think people get caught up in the Alford hating.
