New Wartburg Gym

For the couple of you who care.

The W - Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center

Looks like 30 million well spent to me.

Re: New Wartburg Gym

Have you been up there yet? Its even better in person. The locker rooms and training room are incredible compared to when we were there. My wife played in the alumni VB match over homecoming and they took us on the tour. It is something else.

Should be a good boost for an already solid athletic program.

Can't wait to see the football team come onto the field from the building. Should be sweet.

I'm just glad I dont live in Waverly anymore so that more of my tax dollars aren't used to help pay for that monstrosity when there isnt enough members to meet yearly budgets.
I've heard they need a minimum of 900 individuals memberships to make it work. In a town of less than 10,000, with two other cheaper gym options, thats going to be a tough mark to hit.

Re: New Wartburg Gym

My daughter is a student there, and last fall I walked through the building. Nice place, good facility, but I thought the gym capacity is less then the old gym.

I thought it was neat that they took the jump circle out of the old gym and put it down in the floor in a room overlooking the football stadium. I expect that's where Ohle is going to take you alumni during football games to squeeze you for jack.

Mind the gap!

I think the new seating capacity is about 200 more than the old one. There is much more standing capacity now and no "obstructed view" seats like there was with the old one.
Needed moreso with this facility was the fieldhouse as the old one was outdated and not large enough to hold an indoor track for the nationally prominent track teams.
Also, Wartburg has not had a pool before and there was a racquetball court with 2 treadmills and a couple elliptical machines to work out on. That was it.
