Do you not want young, impressionable future Cyclones to get hooked on Hilton Magic??

I'm just saying its college students, they are who they are. I want Hilton to be full with everybody on game day, I just think you should know where you are going, and its not like there is a constant stream of swearing coming from the students 40 min a game

Dorm room? A house party? Your mom's basement even...

My point is...to copy from my post in the tread earlier this week...

It just seems simple to me, when your AD asks you politely to do something, a man that has put countless hours into making our programs better - including hours that have not been very fun - you do it. Especially when it's a very simple change that embodies respect for those around you.

Re: cyclone alley

That is fine. However, if the actions and the cursing are impacting those bringing families, donors, etc, who do you think is in the right?

No one wants to take away anything from the great things the student sections contribute. They are critical to our success and Hilton Magic.

However, just telliing someone to deal with it will not work either.

Re: cyclone alley

take the charged up if not sometimes vulgar students out of Hilton and there is no home court advantage, no Hilton Magic, you have to take the bad with the good. i'd rather have an intense PG-13 environment than a sit on your hands Oregon St environment. students will do what they want and some guy, even if it is JP, is not gonna sway their opinion, or mine.

Its 2008. Between the economy, the war in the middle east, and the ever increasing threat of dying at the hands of China-man or a Chupacabra, I say, live it up.

The world is gonna end soon so swear if you want too!

Some People see things as they are and say why? I dream things that never were and say why not? When I took this job I said why not Iowa State? Why not winning? Why not bowl games? Why not sell outs? Why not national respect? Why not us? Why not here? Why not the cyclone family?

That is one of the dumbest things of ever read!! A college BB game is supposed to be a family event. How do you build a solid fan base except by making fans of young children. I hare to tell you but it is the family that gives the money that paid for Hilton and other facilities. The students sure don't. Wise up if families don't come the place will not be full. If you can't cheer without the vulgar language then your education at ISU is surely lacking. Sorry for the rant but the fact that so many can't hold a simple conversation without the language just disgusts me.

I'm sorry but that is absolutely ridiculous. Hilton magic was alive and well for many years without the student section screaming profanities loud enough that it can easily be heard on TV. Frankly we didn't say "to this stupid f'ing song" when I was in school and I stopped having student tickets in 2004. Yelling that isn't a tradition and I hope it never becomes one.

Honestly if this goes on much longer Pollard is going to be hearing about it from a lot of places and he totally should. It's completely unacceptable, classless, tacky, and so many other things I can't even begin to describe it. I'm going to lose a lot of respect for Pollard if it isn't cleaned up immediatly either by the band not playing the songs anymore or PA announcements scolding the students over the loudspeaker.

Cussing was cool when I was in JUNIOR HIGH. Grow up.

Re: cyclone alley

After reading all of the comments on here, i agree with a lot of you for different reasons.
The question i ask is, how is it going to get fixed??? Obviously a letter to the students didn't work. How would some of you tackle this problem?

Re: cyclone alley

Just to throw another idea out there, what would happen if the rest of the people in attendence sang "and I don't care" to drown out the students' rendition of "to this stupid ...... song"? I don't think many people would just curse louder to be heard. Of course, that would require the rest of the people there to actually sing...

Save us tonight, the last hope for all of us,
Light-years gone by, we're still holding on,
Save us tonight, a star shines in all of us,
Far beyond our lives, still our glory lives on.

I can't believe this is even a debate.

The occasional shout of a profanity is OK, but organized, vulgar chants are not.
