The defense was atrocious and has to be fixed if the Golden Gophers are to be taken seriously. 4. DUKE (1-11) - No. 101 overall
New coach David Cutcliffe says he can win at Duke. We'll see. 5. NOTRE DAME (3-9) - No. 84 overall Charlie Weis has some work to do to regain his "genius" tag. 6. The Cyclones will be breaking in a new quarterback next season. 8. STANFORD (4-8) - No. 79 overall
The Cardinal's shocking victory at USC likely kept the Trojans out of the championship game. 9. NORTH CAROLINA (4-8) - No. 77 overall Butch Davis and his staff need to bring in a lot more talent. 10. NC STATE (5-7) - No. 76 overall

That list seems pretty crappy considering the only reason they have listed that we need help is "breaking in a new QB." I thought we did at least some of that last season? Seems that there are several other teams which need more help than us that didn't make the list.

Same service will probably have Iowa in its top ten. How did breaking in a new quarterback workout for Kansas this year. Prefer to play them out before making any judgements.

Bottom 10 lists are about as good as top 10 lists.
That being said, while many Clone fans saw improvements in the program over the past year, they weren't HUGE improvements, and outsiders that put polls together like this will never pick up on them.
While it may be true that next season should be a vast improvement over this past season, it's no secret that the guys that do these polls usually do a poor job on their homework. It should be taken with a grain of salt.
That being said, ISU will have a lot of work to do next season. Just because the backup QB got some reps doesn't mean he'll be the next Heisman candidate. This next season will be tough for ISU IMO, as losing leaders like Meyer and Blythe will hurt the offense more significantly than fans would like. But after the team gels, I think you'll see better play towards the middle of the season.
I wouldn't put ISU in the bottom 10, but I don't know if I'd put them in the top 50 yet. This season will tell a little more as to what type of coach Chizik will be.

You can kind of turn this into a possitive if you look at it a different way. When was the last time ISU was actually ranked ahead of Notre Dame? Might want to take a picture of that because it doesn't happen very often. haha

Notice they only have schools from BCS conferences/Notre Dame on their list.
Looks like someone trying to stir the pot to me-I doubt if the author could rationalize keeping......say..... Northern Illinois? off this list

Northern Illinois? off this list It is a list of only BCS schools, because, well, it's a list of the 10 worst BCS teams. No trying to stir the pot. Also, it has nothing to do with this coming up year, just the guy's opinion on who the 10 worst BCS teams were this last year.

I enjoy coming in under the radar anyway. Iowa sure doesn't get any help from pundits when they are selected to place high in the Big 10.

They state that the list only includes BCS schools and Notre Dame. Unfortunately I think it's a fair assessment of ISU's season overall, although I did see improvements as the season progressed. To say that ISU doesn't need A LOT of improvement is silly. Having said that, I'm drinking the Cardinal and Gold Kool-Aid. I think Chizik is the man to turn the program around.
