OJ Mayo accepts tickets from 'Melo, could be NCAA rule violation

ESPN - USC's Mayo may have violated NCAA rule by accepting free NBA tickets - Men's College Basketball

Just like the football team and Florida's football team, I'm sure nothing will happen.

Again, our guy take no money for playing ball and he gets a 1 year suspension...damn that angers me.

Well that should disqualify the rest of the USC team, right?

I was there when they crucified my Lord

I threw the dice when they pierced his side
But I've seen love conquer the great divide

What tickets? Its USC and will be swept under the imported rug.

Charlie Mackenzie: No, I think it's repellent in every way. In fact, I think most Scottish cuisine is based on a dare.

Quick, someone tell the press there was a great guy who did everything right that has to sit out a year because someone on his club team got paid. Comparing Lucca to OJ is like comparing Jesus to Barabbas (well maybe not that extreme).

The real NCAA biased point of view will come out when they investigate Reggie Bush taking money and gifts while at USC. They have telephone audio of the transaction after it happened and they should be hit hard. I guess we shall find out in short time.

Re: OJ Mayo accepts tickets from 'Melo, could be NCAA rule violation

It says the tickets have a face value of $230 each. Any pro game I have ever been to on a player's will call list the tickets have said 'complimentary' where the price is... The article also says if they are friends and Melo isn't acting on behalf of the Nuggets then it is legal. I don't think this is a big deal at all. If it is I think there are ALOT of college players that would be ineligable. I know I would have...

It may not be a BIG deal, but its definitely a deal. If you read the article, Mayo cannot take any free or discounted tickets.

Keep reading, it says
NCAA bylaw 16.11.2.2.3 states that student-athletes may not receive "free or reduced-cost admission to professional athletics contests from professional sports organizations, unless such services also are available to the student body in general."

The NCAA could consider Anthony a friend who gave Mayo the tickets rather than a representative of the Nuggets, perhaps making the matter legal by NCAA standards

I guess on ESPN they made it sound like the 2 didn't really know each other.

It's too bad when stuff like this happens to a good, upstanding person like O.J. Mayo

Sounded like they were hanging out together the previous night...

"I was talking to him like, `Man, you're out pretty late. You've got a game tomorrow night against Kobe [Bryant],"' Mayo said. "He said, `Nah, it will be all right.' And then he asked, `You want to come to the game?' And I was like, 'Sure.' "
