Other Illinois schools --

Fisher Bunnies
Hoopeston Cornjerkers
Monmouth Zippers
Monticello Sages
Teutopolis Wooden Shoes
Williamsville Bullets (Junior High = BB's)

Of course there's the Frankfort, Indiana Hot Dogs.

I do think it's funny that we have a Cardinal which has no correlation with a Cyclone, but hey, you gotta get the kids involved and i have a hard time imagining the little kids' faces lighting up like they do when they see CY, if our mascot was some sorta tornado looking thing.

But as for the mentioning of the Shockers, they have the BEST and my personal favorite mascot/team name. I mean seriously, the Wichita State Shockers, that pic just says enough.

Re: Unusual college mascots

For division 1 I think that tigers is the msot common uses mascot name. Also it probably doesn't seem as weird now, but why would you name your mascot after a buckeye?? That is like being the acorns or a pine cone.

Of course, you have that memorable pic of that cheerleader throwing up the Shocker sign on national TV. Her parents must have been SO proud...
