Re: No wonder Minnesota had a top recruiting class!

i am jealous. why can't we just sell the naming rights of the stadium to get the 'big' donor we need? Jack-Trice field @ xxxx Stadium

Arrived in STL via Ames, IA & Bloomington, IN!

Also, i don't know if they practice there, or if they have somewhere on campus, but that's gotta be a hassle also to work around the vikings practice and such.
I guess I really don't understand the point you are trying to make. In their current situation they do not pay the Vikings as the Vikings do not own the Metrodome. The stadium is leased out to the teams that play in it (Vikings, Twins, and Gophers). The teams that play there still rake in ticket and concession sales.

Both the Gophers and Vikings (as all NFL teams do) have practice facilities, so scheduling is not an issue.

It's expandable up to 80,000 seats I believe. IMO, you have got to be able to fill up 50,000 before you can fill up 80,000. If they put a product on the field to consistently sell 50,000 seats you will see the stadium expand very quickly.

Okie state's will be a ton better still, but I would love to call that jack Trice statium. I feel like each year we just keep getting farther and and farther away from the pack.
It's really nice and it's an awesome design, but stadiums don't play games or win them either.

It's not 50,000 because of demand, but because of price. You have to realize that there is a 350 million dollar twins stadium going up at the same time along with this 250 million dollar stadium. That is a HUGE burden on Minnesota tax payers so therefore they purposely built the stadium to seat 50,000 so it would be cheaper. It's not going to stay 50k btw, they purposely built the stadium so that in the future when they can afford they will turn it into a bowl stadium with a capacity of 80,000. Also just to note, ziggi wilf is pushing for a 1 billion dollar stadium to be built on the site of the Metrodome (vikes would play in tcf when they're demolishing the dome and building the new stadium). So yeah, there is going to be alot of money being raised and spent in the future of Minnesota (not to mention the 50,000,000+ needed to rebuild the 35W bridge).

And yes Minnesota taxes suck...

Re: No wonder Minnesota had a top recruiting class!

I was always surprised they never started phasing this stuff in sooner. At least the new stadium for the gophers. I don't know how they felt as fans, but, as someone who's been up there for games played in the metrodome, it never really seemed like a home for the Gophers. Maybe it's because I'm a Vikings fan, but, I never really felt the Twins belonged there either. That's actually saying a lot considering I never did like the Vikings playing there either.

I always figured this exact situation would come to a head one day when the Metrodome got worn out. Now everyone wants a new stadium. I feel sorry for MN residents that have to pick up this tab.

Speaking of the Metrodome though, is it really that outdated? I remember hearing a lot of clammerings a few years ago from the Vikings and how it just isn't up to league standards. It kind of surprises me. It's not that old really. Isn't Arrowhead in KC older? I always figured it was just the full time dome thing that no one liked. Of all things, baseball should not be played in a dome unless it's raining or late in the year. I went to a Twins game up there a few years ago and absolutely hated it. I think it was about 75 or 80 degrees and sunny outside and here I was sitting inside watching baseball. I just had that "I'm in my living room feeling."

Anyways, wow, good for the Gophers. That's really a nice looking place and hopefully brings a little bit better "Gameday" atmosphere to their school.

Re: No wonder Minnesota had a top recruiting class!

thats amazing really... i think the only reason they have the one open endzone is because they dont have enough fans to fill that section and to come see the team lol

why do the flag in jack trice always fly to the east?
-cuz the hawks suck, and the huskers blow

I get what your saying, but the Big 10 is the one that has the "my Bleep is so big because I play in a huge stadium" ego. I am a big believer of sometimes smaller compact well built stadiums are harder to play in than the large ones. Same thing in basketball. I think its easier to play at a huge place than a band box that gets loud with 10,000 people right on top of you etc. I think they did well with stadium and wish we could have it. you got to admit recruiting would be easier if we were pimping that stadium. IMO. Maybe we pull 4- 4 star kids instead of 1 etc.

Can't we make something up in our 6 sided virtually reality cube that the engineering dept has. Get a recruit on campus and have him virtually run out the tunnel. New stadium or good ole' JT if we did that it would be awesome!

Wheres my engineers at?

The big stadiums cost more and bring just as much money as a smaller well designed stadium with plenty of Luxury Boxes. Why do you think so many NFL stadiums are so small...

Maybe true in the NFL but the more butts in a seat more likely that butt will donate to the Ath Dept. NFL season ticket holders give money to the team only in the form of season tickets.

The NFL is after the corporate dollars first and foremost, then the season ticket holders. That is why as the poster above stated, more suites and club seating. The Gophers are going after that as well.

Speaking of which...Arrowhead is getting a facelift. Same building just updating it quite a bit. I like it because it still resembles Arrowhead, but is getting an upgrade to make it more fan friendly like other NFL stadiums.

::: THE NEW ARROWHEAD :::

They are actually remodeling both Arrowhead and Kaufman (Royals Stadium). The first proposal had a sliding roof on rails that would go back n forth between the two stadiums for whichever one needed cover from the elements. However, tax payers weren't up for fitting the bill and all other renovations were approved minus the rolling roof. With the roof the Chiefs were guaranteed a Superbowl and would make it more weather friendly for other events. I was pretty disappointed that it didn't get passed...guess it wasn't going to cost me any.

Here is a link to a real player animation on the roof and more info if curious.

I may have to venture up north for a game sometime. Always up for seeing a game at a different stadium.

Trust me, colleges are going after corp. dollars just as hard as the NFL.
