LSU's John Brady to be fired...

LSU will announce that John Brady has been fired as the Tigers’ basketball coach at a 1 p.m. news conference today, according to a high-ranking university official. Brady is expected to coach his final game Saturday against No. 7 Tennessee, and then be replaced by assistant Butch Pierre on an interim basis.

Brady has compiled a record of 192-139 in 10-plus seasons with the Tigers. LSU is 8-13 this season. Under Brady, the Tigers have won the SEC Western Division three times and finished second twice. His teams have made four NCAA and two NIT appearances. His 1999-2000 team lost to Wisconsin in the NCAA Sweet 16, and his 2005-06 team lost to UCLA in the national semifinals at the Final Four.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Goes to show ALOT of it has to do with the caliber of players you can get and not necessarily the caliber of coach.

Guy almost went all the way when he had players and now is struggling.

People expect you to build on success and not back-track. This was the problem LE had before his incident.

'But I love the idea of the Sacrificial Lamb. . . There are consequences to actions. The point of the death of Christ is that Christ took on the sins of the world, so that what we put out did not come back to us, and that our sinful nature does not reap the obvious death. That's the point. It should keep us humbled. . . It's not our own good works that get us through the gates of heaven.'

Might be a good fit. There are probably a lot of homes in Louisiana that don't have DirecTV.

I know it is the only way to do it but why do asst coaches always step in when a coach is fired? They are hired by the coach, one would think they would be somewhat close, and if the head guy isnt getting the job done dont the asst coaches play a part of that.

I'm not an expert on sports, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

Re: LSU's John Brady to be fired...

I think they really want Floyd, but he and Brady are freinds so I really doubt he would go.

I know he has a good thing going at USC, but as a Tiger I would love to see him back at LSU. Heck, as a Cyclone I would love him back at ISU if thigns don't work out with McD.

NOTICE - I do not have anythign against McD, don't turn this into a he/she said about McD.

I'm suprised they even let him coach this year. It killed their team when Tyrus Thomas and Big Baby left early.

Re: LSU's John Brady to be fired...

Wayne Morgan is not a candidate. The initial names being tossed out are Butch Pierre (current LSU associate head coach), John Treloar (current LSU assistant coach and former assistant at Indiana), Anthony Grant (current VCU head coach...was to become Florida's head coach when Donovan was leaving for the Magic before changing his mind), Travis Ford (current Massachusetts head coach), Scott Drew (current Baylor head coach...his father Homer Drew was a Dale Brown assistant for four seasons at LSU), Tony Bennett (current Washington State head coach whose wife is from Baton Rouge), Johnny Jones (current head coach at North Texas and former Dale Brown assistant).

The names of both Bob Knight and Tim Floyd have been tossed out as well but most people do not think either are serious candidates...Knight because of age and his antics; Floyd because of his current situation at SC and his friendship with Brady.

Brady, Floyd and Eustachy are all buddies. I believe Floyd was the top choice at LSU when Dale Brown left 11 years ago (he was at ISU at the time) but he turned LSU down at the time (because of his plans to go to the Bulls) and recommended Brady to the LSU AD at the time (Joe Dean). Brady got the job. Obviously, after Floyd left ISU he recommended Eusatachy and he got that job.

The big reason that assistants step in after the HC is fired is because they have to have someone coach the team. If they let the entire staff go mid-season...who would coach the team?

Lastly, a lot of LSU people don't like Brady (kind of a surly personality, cheated on his former wife, etc.). However, I believe he is a very good X&O coach and probably does his best work with less talented teams (has trouble letting the ultra talented players play). Pierre was his top recruiter and did a great job getting very talented players to come to LSU (the class slated to come in next year is considered a top 10-15 class...assuming they all stay committed after these changes). Probably the biggest problem LSU had under Brady was that they never recruited quality point guards very well. Most of the recruits have been "long" guys between 6-6 and 6-10 that are pretty much interchangable at the 2, 3, 4, and 5 slots. But no real point guards to run the show. They lost DJ Augustin to Texas after Hurricane Katrina relocated him to Houston and for some reason they did not recruit a Baton Rouge kid named Ryan Francis that ended up going to play for Floyd at USC and was PAC 10 Newcomer of the Year his freshman season (unfortunately the kid was shot to death after that season).

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

One other thing...McDermott came to Baton Rouge with his last UNI team and beat Brady's Final Four team at the Maravich Assembly Center.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
