You've probably read some of the news about potential changes to NCAA FB recruiting. Much of this centered around creating an early signing period for football. You've likely also read the thread about the kid who "made up" the offer(s) he received.
I've also linked an article that talks about fake letters being sent to Buckeye recruits basically stating that their offer had been pulled. Luckily, the letters appear to have been written by a 7 year old and were dismissed by those that received them. But what if they had been done professionally? What happens when people start calling recruits impersonating coaches? BuckeyeXtra - The Columbus Dispatch : Fake letters aimed at Ohio State recruit
Outside of the early signing period, what other ideas are out there to shore up this mess?

I think an early signing period would be great

Was this the letter that said his offer and been pulled and "Tressel" said he would be better off going to Minnesota to play?

I think the best way to shore up the NCAA recruiting in all sports would be to hire Kelvin Sampson as the Recruiting Czar of the NCAA.

Signing day is stupid. A recruit should be allowed to sign at any point in the year. That way only kids who are ready to accept 'for real' will accept.

This should help reduce the number of fake letters/calls recruits could be getting by allowing them to sign whenever they are ready rather than having to wait until a certain date before they can sign.

I think the problem with signing anytime would be that these are young "kids" who tend to make rash decisions. I would like to think that they could weigh all options and then sign, but that's very doubtful.
I would just be concerned with recruits signing on impulse. Or, perhaps a coach pressurring them into signing. I think its tough to ask a person that young to make such an important life decision on their own. I would hope that the famiily would be involved enough to help the athlete along, but who knows.

Sorry if someone else already posted this somewhere else, but there are rumors that the University of Colorado gave Darrell Scott's mom a 6-figure salary job. I don't know if it's true, but that would be messed up.
