I think Bruce Pearl has to be their number 1 choice, but I think Tennessee will do everything in their power to hang on to him, plus i agree i think he is very happy there. Kevin Stallings has to get a look as he has turn vandy into a very good program. For some reason I can see Tim Floyd doing well there. Very good coach recruiting big time talent to a traditional powerhouse. Plus I think the Indiana fan base would like him, which is just as important as anything.

Sampson was informed early Thursday that he will no longer be the coach at Indiana, numerous sources told FOXSports.com.
The official announcement is expected to come Friday, when the university's self-imposed seven-day investigation period ends.
When asked to confirm Sampson's firing, Indiana director of media relations J.D. Campbell told FOXSports.com, "I don't know that to be true."
Campbell also said no official announcement was currently scheduled for Friday.
All signs point to Indiana assistant Dan Dakich, a former Hoosier player and assistant coach under Bob Knight, taking the reins for the remainder of the season.
The move comes just eight days after the NCAA announced its findings that Sampson had committed five major rules violations. The NCAA alleged that Sampson placed improper phone calls to recruits, then provided false and misleading information about those calls to both the university and NCAA investigators.
In response, university president Michael McRobbie said the school would conduct a new investigation into the accusations.
A school investigation last year revealed that Sampson and his assistants had made more than 100 impermissible calls, but the school had previously contended that the violations were secondary in nature.
Sampson was already on NCAA probation when he took the Indiana job for making 577 improper phone calls between 2000 and 2004 while the coach at Oklahoma.
The scandal comes in the midst of the Hoosiers' strongest season since losing to Maryland in the 2002 national title game. With the win over Purdue, Indiana improved to 22-4 overall (11-2 in the Big Ten) and is currently ranked No. 15 in the Associated Press poll.
The win also pulled the Hoosiers to within a half-game of the Boilermakers in the Big Ten race, but is far more likely to be remembered as the final game of Sampson's brief tenure in Bloomington. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Oh yeah...in the article from my post above...this quote is just HILARIOUS: “A young, flashy coach with charm, sophistication, media savvy and poise, who knows how to recruit the heck out of the country and coach the heck out of a basketball team.”

It looks like the New Mexico writer is still on his honeymoon with Steve Alford. Steveo hasn't been there long enough yet to alienate everyone like he did here. Iowa fans were gushing about Steve his first few years here as well.
Maybe he will mesh better in his home state, but he sure didn't seem to be that good a recruiter here. I think he's a fairly good x's and o's coach however.

Sampson Replacement Ya Say: ... My first pick would be Steve Alford from New Castle Indiana by way of SMS-U OF I- NMU!!!!
I guarantee ya in my heart of hearts that the squawkeyefanbase would just go absolutely or is it absolute? ... CRAZY!!
The squawk fan base getting their sails trimmed every year by Steve Alford and the Hoosiers would be worth its weight in GOLD!!

And maybe Stevieboy has matured...and learned from his experience at Iowa. It certainly wouldn't be the first time a coach improved based on a previous poor experience.

The guy just has no class. I'm never going to forget how he belittled Iowa after leaving. The guy collects a big check for a lot of years and puts out a mediocre product and yet has nerve to degrade the school. Believe me, I'm not an Iowa fan, but they deserved better then that and what he did just wasn't right.

Alford is already a better coach than Knight? Please...
