__________________ Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." |

But there is no way, when Iowa averages attendance like they do this year, that they should be in the top 50, much less top 5. |

"a nationwide sample of 2,513 U.S. adults, 611 of whom follow college basketball." So, the nation is being summed up by 2500 people? Of which 24% don't even follow the sport they are polling about? I don't even know how that can be a valid sampling. "Do you follow any of these sports?" Base: All adults 2007
2008
%
% FOLLOW COLLEGE SPORTS (NET) 41 41 College football 33
34 Men’s college basketball 24
23 Women’s college basketball 8
7 College baseball 6
8 College hockey 4
3 Other college sport 8
7 I follow none of these sports 59
59 Note: Multiple-response question. Basically, the Harris Poll had 59% of the 2513 polled didn't follow sports. I don't think this random sampling truly reflects the nation. More than likely, it is name recognition (if that).

Because if they are asking people, of which whom 23% say follow college basketball, doesn't that make their poll kind of stupid and ill conceived? |

Direct quote from one of my friends. That statement right there shows the intelligence of Iowa fans. There's plenty of things I'd rather watch a womens' basketball game before I did/had happen to me, and getting punched in the nuts is one of them...

Plus I'd never be able to speak to my in-laws (and I actually like them). That and it's been fun over the last several years rubbing it in their faces. Plus the "What do Iowa and ISU fans have in common?" joke is pretty much applicable to them

By the way, the Iowa WBB attendance hasn't always been as low as it has been. In the early 90's, the women were the first team to have an advanced sell out.
I do think it's a little funny though, because if ISU were on that list, this thread would be full of "Finally, America realizes that we have one of the best fan bases around! It's hard to deny that even with our teams struggling, our fans show up and support the teams."
For the record, I think anything/everything related to the Harris poll is a joke.

For the record, I think anything/everything related to the Harris poll is a joke. So true. Once again you have to make sense. Why can't you just stick to saying stupid things so we can all hate you? |
