Packer is pathetic in hiding his biases and I friggin can't stand him as a color guy. Last night he took Vitale's place on the top of my list for worst voice/personality to have to deal with during a basketball game.
And FWIW, the group of 15 or so that I watched the game with all agreed Billy and even Nance to an extent seemed to be blatantly rooting for Memphis. Hell, even CBS was obsessed with Memphis. Kansas gets a sweet play - one replay. Memphis makes a good play - 10 replays from all different angles.

All Packer does is make negative comments about things and generally be an old curmudgeon, he makes the games less enjoyable. It would have been great to hear how Gus Johnson would have called the 3 at the end of regulation, his enthusiasm is great and makes the games more fun to watch.

I don't care for Packer either, but I thought he was fairly even handed. He had a comment at the beginning of the game that the KU played a tougher schedule in the Big12 than Memphis played in Conference USA.
CBS should hire Bob Knight to replace him.

How many times did they replay the dunk in the first half by Dorsey when he ran into Aldrich when he turned around? I saw it replayed five times in a row-all from different angles. Big deal...

Horrible announcing, horrible pre/postgame, and made the game seem unexciting. The game was supposed to start at 8 but didn't until 8:20 because of all the commercial and pregame crap.... Honestly like I haven't heard enought pregame from ESPN that has been talking about this ever since saturday that I needed to hear more.

The game was never suppose to start at 8 p.m. It has been scheduled as an 8:21 p.m. eastern time start from the begining of the year. It tipped at exactly 8:21 p.m. as well...

I can not believe they let Packer do games of this significance.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of "One Shining Moment".
When a network pays as much as CBS did for the rights to the Tourney you are going to get a lot of promos and commercials.
Although CBS has improved their coverage over the years, they still have not matched the coverage that ESPN had back from the early 80s to early 90s when they (not CBS) covered the early round games. I don't think CBS covered the entire tournament exclusively until 1991 or 1992. Additionally, prior to 1981 or 1982, NBC carried the final rounds of the tournament.
NBC had a great announcing crew of Dick Enberg, Al McGuire, and Packer. McGuire was able to keep Packer in his place because he really knew the game. ESPN did do a fantastic job with the 1st two rounds. Dick Vitale standing on his head after Austin Peay beat Illinois, that was awesome!
I really like One Shining Moment, but I'm a sentimental guy like that.
Anybody that could keep Billy in check would deserve a raise. Maybe they could sing Sweet Caroline to drown him out. |

*I thought twice was enough, that was nuts... I was refering to a different play-one in the first half when he got the steal and dribbled in for a dunk. I didn't mind them replaying the one you're refering to (in the 2nd half) because it was sort of weak on Dorsey's part...
