Re: Athletic Director without a College Degree....?

If the guy can get the job done I don't think it should matter. He obviously has a good business sense.

I however think they are walking a thin line with the booster/athlete association.

Re: Athletic Director without a College Degree....?

I thought it was interesting when they brought up the fact that pretty much every position they have an opening for in the athletic department requires a 4 year degree at a minimum....even though the top dog doesn't even have one.

Re: Athletic Director without a College Degree....?

I know some people that have a 4 year degree that are business-wise less useful than someone without a 4 year degree. If he can get it done, more power to him.

Shouldn't they then drop the 4 year degree requirement on their job postings?

Money talks.....

I'm not saying that is right but it seem to be more and more of a requirement now in sports, and not just professional, creeping into college athletics as well.....

If you found out JP didn't have a 4 year degree would you want to run him out of town? I wouldn't!

Was JP a major donor to ISU before being hired as AD?

Re: Athletic Director without a College Degree....?

Do you think any school would ever hire a AD without a degree...?

Unless he brought something to the table, this Pat Kilkenney seemed to bring money, influence and bussiness sense.

Re: Athletic Director without a College Degree....?

Kilkenny was a major UO booster with no degree, who SOMEHOW ended up as the school's AD (wink wink). He and Phil Knight are tight.

Oregon is dropping wrestling while adding baseball and competitive cheerleading. You tell me THAT decision didn't come from Nike. Those two sports will cost the university more money than wrestling did.

However, Nike realizes that they can unload WAY more baseball and cheer equipment/gear/accessories than wrestling stuff. (Mostly, because their wrestling products are junk compared to Asics, Cliff Keen, etc.) And why shouldn't they have their guinea pig school trotting out the newest lines in each sport every year?

Right, but the reason he got the job then appears to be due to the fact that he is a huge donor to the program. He obviously doesn't meet the standard educational requirements.....

Or because the Cheerleading and Baseball markets are MUCH bigger than the wrestling market.

Re: Athletic Director without a College Degree....?

That, too.

And let's not forget that their in-state rival has won 2 CWS titles. That's the other reason for jumping back in to baseball.
