Re: Tim Floyd to OSU?

It would be great to see Floyd back in the Big 12, but I just don't see him leaving USC from the articles I have read over the last couple of years. He is definitely one of the top 10 coaches in the country, and if OSU some how plucks him from USC..... well that is a good job out of them.

Re: Tim Floyd to OSU?

Why he wont leave USC.
1. USC is a bigger stage than OSU
2. LA vs Stillwater
3. At some point he has to stay with something, a lot of coaches move around when they are young, but once they hit a certin point they stay put.
4. At somepoint you and your family have to get tired of moving.
5. He is set for life money wise why leave the best thing you have done since ISU for the unknown.
6. Getting kids to come to LA vs Stillwater

I'm not an expert on sports, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

2 years - Louisiana Tech
9 years - UTEP
2 years - Idaho
6 years - New Orleans
4 years - ISU
3 years - Chicago
2 years - New Orleans
3 years - USC

31 years, 8 jobs - average of 3.8 years at each one. Based on past history, it's time for him to move on.

Re: Tim Floyd to OSU?

USC may be a bigger stage in football than OSU but I would argue in basketball. OSU has a much better tradition than USC, even recently. OSU made a final four not to long ago.

USC is a much bigger stage but they've always been overshadowed by the team they share it with -- UCLA.

Which begs the question...why?. Larry Brown moved around a lot and he was able to win a National Championship with KU. I think we often underestimate just how tough it is for schools like Duke, UNC, KU, UCLA, etc. to sustain success at the elite level year after year after year...it is much tougher than it may appear...especially in today's environment. Again, I say Floyd is probably in the top 25-50 coaches but nowhere near the top 10.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Again, I ask for some evidence to support this claim...I say no way is he in the top 10.

Not to mention the Lakers and Clippers. USC basketball will ALWAYS be fourth fiddle. That can't sit too well with a guy with an ego like Floyd.

Any extra money made in Stillwater is multiplied when you factor in the cost of living. Close enough to Oklahoma City, which should have an NBA team shortly to attract recruits.

I agree; Floyd should not be on any list of great college coaches.

When you think of great college coaches, they build and sustain winning programs over a long period of time and through multiple recruiting cycles -- Coach K at Duke, Lute Olson at Arizona, Roy Williams at Kansas & North Carolina, Jim Calhoun at Connecticut, Bob Knight at Indiana & Texas Tech, going back in time you think of John Wooden at UCLA, Adolph Rupp at Kentucky, Dean Smith at North Carolina, etc.

Nobody outside of the ISU community is going to list Tim Floyd of Idaho/U of New Orleans/Iowa State/Chicago Bulls/New Orleans Hornets/USC/TBD with those other guys. They're all in the college basketball Hall of Fame. Floyd may get there as a tourist, but he has no chance of ever being inducted as a member.
