Recruiting process cracked open?

This is pretty amazing - an article on SI.com about a HS QB that is pretty high in terms of teams recruiting him. He and his family are scanning every letter in and posting them on a website.

Andy Staples: A*closer look at the small and LARGE print of recruiting letters - Andy Staples - SI.com

And here's the link (from the article) regarding the actual letters!
Offers

Very eye opening, and how much each letter is pretty much the same smoke and mirrors. :)

Iowa fans wonder why they don't list the conference championships on the letter as other schools do. I assume it is because there is too many to list. (Not that we have much to talk smack on that issue)

It is interesting to see what the different schools have in the letters though.

Re: Recruiting process cracked open?

I enjoyed the barb at Mike "I'm a Man!" Gundy for writing his entire letter in all caps -- although that's actually inaccurate. The font OSU uses, called Cornerstone (I believe), uses the "small caps" style. But jeez, it is a serious eyesore.

Some of these need to be proofread. Take Baylor's for example:

It is with a great deal of pleasure that I am writing you this letter to let you know of our desire for you to join our football program at Baylor.
Yikes. Tone it down, Bears. Fewer prepositions and better word choice. I am wholly unimpressed by some of these letters -- yes, including Iowa's.

Another gem, this one from Mike Stoops:

It is with great pleasure to offer you a full football scholarship
I think Arizona hired Roger Sprague to write their scholarship offer letters.

His handwriting isn't nearly as disturbing as the subtext in that message. "I like the passion you play with. See if you can make a camp date?"

Sounds like Mr. Briles is trying to get a little fresh.

I would have thought that a disclaimer would be standard these days

Look at Kirk's list of requirements for the kid to qualify for a scholarship, especially #4. Hahahahaha.
