Yeah, well I do remember it - ala Georgia they decided to make an example out of hapless Illinois. Now I tend to like Illinois simply because they're one of Iowa's real rivals (not imaginary Michigan/OSU/PSU rivalries that they like to trumpet up), but of course they belonged in the BCS even less than Hawaii did. Really, if they wanted to do it right, they would have done USC-Georgia and Illinois-Hawaii. However, with the Rose Bowl demanding that it stick to its "so-called" tradition...
I wish it was Illinois vs. Hawaii, then I probably wouldn't have lost my 700K on the game. I'm going to write my congressman and let them know I'm upset about it too because I lost some Cycredits because of it.

It's not "so-called". They've been inviting Pac-10 teams since the game began in 1916, and the Pac-10/Big-10 tradition has been going since WWII.
The game didn't mean anything anyway, so who cares who goes? It's like arguing over the seeding in the NIT. Let the bowl games keep their tradition. It's one of the many great things about college football.

They didn't seem to care too much about tradition when they sold out to the BCS, only until 2002 when they lost both Iowa and USC to the Orange Bowl. Only up to that point did they start complaining - basically they wanted have their cake and eat it too.
The time the Rose Bowl began caring more about the BCS money was the time I began not giving a rip about their "so-called" tradition.
