LINK: Congress wants to determine if BCS is illegal enterprise
Here's an excerpt:
"Reps. Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii), Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.) and Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) are introducing a resolution rejecting the oft-criticized bowl system as an illegal restriction on trade because only the largest universities compete in most of the major bowl games. The resolution would require Justice's antitrust division to investigate whether the system violates federal law. The measure would also put Congress on record as supporting a college football playoff."
Here's another excerpt. Their beef with the BCS is probably a case of sour grapes:
"But it's no coincidence that all three lawmakers have home-state schools with recent beefs against the bowl system.Hawaii and Boise State University in Idaho each had an undefeated season in recent years but were denied a shot at the championship. And Westmoreland said he is still smarting about his Georgia Bulldogs being passed over for the national championship game last year."

But yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing the B(C)S disappear either...

of course, this list of senators with sour grapes will continue to increase as the NCAA will continue to screw schools.

Georgia felt like they got snubbed (whether they really did or not is another argument) and they were going to make an example out of whichever team they played. Now, I'm not saying Hawaii would have gone on to upset USC or LSU had they played either of those teams instead, but I'm pretty sure Georgia would have smacked either of those teams around as well to prove a point.

Good to know that if I lose my job or my house, baseball will be cleaned of performance enhancers and NCAA football will include every football team in their post season.
And yes, I have let my congresswoman know of my displeasure. |

I don't remember USC's bowl game, but it sure seemed like USC-Georgia would have been fun, with lots of chips and lots of shoulders.

Yeah, well I do remember it - ala Georgia they decided to make an example out of hapless Illinois. Now I tend to like Illinois simply because they're one of Iowa's real rivals (not imaginary Michigan/OSU/PSU rivalries that they like to trumpet up), but of course they belonged in the BCS even less than Hawaii did. Really, if they wanted to do it right, they would have done USC-Georgia and Illinois-Hawaii. However, with the Rose Bowl demanding that it stick to its "so-called" tradition...

This type of thing, along with all of the other circus type media events that are staged by Congress, are nothing more than a slap in the face to the American public. They must honestly believe that by tackling superficial pop culture type issues, the ignorant American public will believe that they are tackling "real issues". Any elected representative that brings such utter crap to the table should be immediately recalled to their respective state, as they are doing nothing other than wasting tax dollars in a smoke and mirrors attempt to look productive.

And yes, I have let my congresswoman know of my displeasure. Since when was Congress responsible for helping you keep your job or house? If Congress is responsible for that, then ultimately, I, as a taxpayer, am evidently responsible for your well being as well.
