Augustin and Abrams declare for draft

ESPN - Texas guards Augustin, Abrams decide to enter NBA draft - NBA

Looks like Texas' big two will go pro, leaving our boys with a much better chance of beating Texas next year. In a way it's a shame to lose Augustine, since he seemed like a great all around player and person...but I'll take it :)

Re: Augustin and Abrams declare for draft

I think Abrams will be back though. I'm amazed by the number of players that are declaring this year. Seems like more than in the past.
I read an article about Memphis' entire starting lineup entering the draft. Calapari talked about encouraging the young guys to go through the workouts and get tips from the scouts in order to make them better players. Though they probably will be back at school and won't be drafted.
I guess coaches shouldn't mind when their kids get free advice from top scouts.

The draft is going to be filled with underclassmen. Could there be more underclassmen drafted than Srs? Some of this guys will return to college.

That could be walking a fine line with the NCAA. That is extra practices, taking time away from school , getting advice and coaching from pros and pro coaches, and competing aginst the best for a few months. This is more than Lucca did and he lost a year. Maybe they sould make a rule, you can declare but you miss 2 games if you do, for every workout you do you have to miss a game, and every the games you miss have to be spread out through the season. This will make guys think twice about declaring and maybe keep some talent in the NCAA.

Re: Augustin and Abrams declare for draft

I think there were only 4 seniors drafted in the first round last year. Seems to be the trend since the mid 90s. I can't believe a guy like Loren Meyer was a mid first round pick back in his day. How times have changed.

Re: Augustin and Abrams declare for draft

According to this mock draft you even have to go all the way to 18 pick to get to an upperclassman. Then the 21st pick is the first Sr.
