I'm not sure what the big deal is with Great Plains. I ate there twice and both times the crust was dry and hard. Maybe I just got 2 bad pizzas.
I would agree that Es Tas are the best tacos I have had. I enjoy Great Plains but I am nowhere near the "it is the greatest pizza ever" like lots of people do.

Well, first be sure to order the "thick wheat" crust ... then load up on the honey bottles ~ 1 per person. eat topping portion of pizza, then dip crust in honey ... repeat.

eventually, you'll be dipping the whole damn slice in honey and its a downward spiral into extasy from there ...

Re: Favorite Place to Eat in College

Didn't eat there a ton, but I always liked Wallaby's.

Other places:
Battles
DaVincis with the Sousas
Cocost

I was never really impressed with Great Plains to be honest, and I'm really big on Pizza.

I'm not even sure it's still there anymore, but we used to like Cafe Northwest.

I have never ate at those places, so I can't compare. But they are worth a try if you ever have the chance.

It's behind the TipTop now.

It's out on Lincoln Way, just past Duff. On a game day this fall, get up early and get over there between 5 and 6 am for chilli and beer!!! It's one of those things you have to do at least once!

Cafe Northwest had some great wing specials. There three flavors, Hot, Hot Hot, and Hot Hot Hot were awesome. Plus some cheap beer to wash it down with.

Clons_jer, good call on the Wheat Crust, you can't beat it.

In Ames, there was a cheap pizza place on Lincoln Way that closed down. I think Home Team moved in there. Started with a "P" I think. IIRC, $5 pizzas, which were only a short walk away from Friley. Family owned I'm pretty sure. Old guy always working there making the pizzas. This would have been around '91 and '92. Anybody remember the name of that place?
That pizza place was there in the 70's and it was one of the first places that came to mind for me. Another was a fast food Mexican place behind the convenience store next to Welsh Street Station. It may have been a Taco Time, I can't remember. It was a great place to go on Sunday night. There was also a hamburger place in Friley, that was great for a late night snack or ice cream. Is that still there?
