I join in the Ruttles love. It was good. I liked Taco Bell on Lincoln Way, as much as I shouldn't admit it. I liked going to Cafe Northwest sometimes, at the "old" location. When I get to Ames now I like Dublin Bay.
EDIT: I forgot to mention one of my favorites!: Home Team Pizza. I can't believe they closed it. One topping large pizzas for 4.99. And the Big Chicago! You can't beat it (disclaimer: I will not vouch for quality of pizza :) ).

Some of my Theta-Chi brothers and I camped out on Tip-Top's roof one year for the Iowa game. We got great seats for chili and beer that morning!

These aren't high on my list but it seems like almost everything else has been mentioned:
- Happy Joe's Buffet to cure a hang over on sunday morning.
- Flame and Skewer at the mall to cure a hang over on sunday morning. I always asked for an extra pita with my Gyro sandwich and made two. Mmmm...
BTW - Speaking of Gyros, my wife and I once went on a Gyro run to the gyro cart dude on a night we WEREN'T drinking and it was really not good. It is amazing how bar time food tastes so good but it probably really isn't.

I can't drive through Ames without eating Battle's BBQ.
Maybe a bit biased as I used to work there, but Whiskey River has the best bar food in town.

That place had decent food, but they put way too many tables in there. It was like you were eating with total strangers they were so close. And what was with that ugly fabric that they used on their chairs? That place was an eyesore inside.
Okoboji is decent and it's much better at the new location. They let that old place go to hell when they knew they were moving.
