Sounds good. It's a pretty cool looking trophy. I think that since so many wonderful people here at CF voted for it, KF may decide to let ISU fans take pictures of it, and pretend that it's theirs.

To me, they're number one until someone else like USC proves otherwise. Not to mention, should they manage to get to conference play without a loss, the rest of the season should be a cakewalk. -

You may laugh, but that's exactly how they got to the championship game last year, when they played Youngstown State, Akron, Washington, and Kent State in the non-conference. The only good team they've beaten in the past two years was Texas in 2006, and that was one of Texas' weaker teams the past few years. Things are different this year though, with a nonconference game at USC. Instead of getting their beatdown in January, the Buckeyes will get it in September. Even if they run the table in the Big Ten (likely), they'll need some luck to back into another championship game.

Postseason participation 80%. Better. Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step. Ferentz will let ISU fans take pictures with the national championship trophy and pretend that it's theirs, and Chizik will let Iowa fans take pictures with the Cy-Hawk trophy and pretend that it's theirs.

Me? I'd much rather have that national trophy over the Cy-Hawk any day.

Re: CFB Preseason #1
Georgia always enters the conversation at the beginning of the year, but they are always overrated. My money's on USC until proven otherwise, but I hate preseason rankings, gives teams like Ohio State an easy track to the title game because it is easier to hold on to a #1 ranking given to you than it is to actually earn it. I realize that the process somewhat sorts itself out throughout the year... just look at how far Kansas climbed from being unranked to start the season. We should just have a playoff. -

Ok, who keeps voting for Iowa? I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd like to see more and more planets fall under the ruthless domination of our solar system. -

To quote Gene, "I didn't come here to win no damn Cy-Hawk trophy"
Monty has officially lost it

Like it or not, Iowa was pretty close to having a shot at a title game a few years back after losing to ISU. They would've gotten killed as they did in their bowl game - but had that taken place, say, last season - they most likely would've been playing for a title.
The fact remains - it seems you'd rather have the Cy-Hawk trophy while most sane ISU fans would take the national title. Doesn't mean the Cy-Hawk can't come with it - some of us just want one a lot more than the other.

And the lack of a championship game in the Big Ten is usually a good enough lucky break to back in OSU to get hammered in yet another BCS game.

Richt is at the level I think Chizik could *possibly* be at someday, though not likely at ISU.

Re: CFB Preseason #1
Cool. Iowa State gets to beat another top 10 team, Iowa. Hopefully it's just like the last time Iowa was in the top 10 and Iowa State beat them.

#8 Iowa 3
Iowa State 23

Re: CFB Preseason #1
Personally, I think Georgia's #1. Nobody out there talks about all the talent they lost to the draft (which means they're probably absolutely loaded), plus I don't think that giving the Hawaii Warriors 3 or 4 "new ones" in the Sugar Bowl was enough to soothe their furiousness over their perception about getting screwed out of the National Championship game (which is obviously a discussion for another thread). Honestly, I wouldn't want to be on Georgia's schedule this year - some teams are gonna get lit up.
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
