Suppose that the floods had completely destroyed the University of Iowa, to the point that rebuilding was impossible. No more Hawkeye athletics. Who do you think their fans would be most likely to start following? I don't know why, but I think a lot of them would gravitate towards Husker football.
If the same happened to ISU, who would you root for? I grew up in Ames and never rooted for anyone other than the Cyclones. I'm sure I'd still follow the Big 12, but I don't know that I'd ever be able to root for another college team with half the passion that I do for my Cyclones.
Edit: This is a hypothetical question about who would you cheer for if your team wasn't around anymore, not about the flood.

They'd rebuild. This hypothetical question is stupid, no offense.

Does anyone know what the protocol is if a team can't play in their home stadium? Would they have all away games or find a facility near by?
Anyway, I have no clue who they'd pull for.
If it was ISU and I had to follow another team for a season it would probably be A&M only because I have so many co-workers that are alums.

I'd probably root for "Ill-Annoy" or Wisconsin. Grew up in the Quad Cities, and most non-alumni Hawk fans hate the Illini.
Had the same high school football uni's as Wisconsin, so there was always a bond tere.

I really hope that the flood wouldn't destry their whole campus, cause it's too fun beating them when they do have a team and I wouldn't want some of their students to try and come to ISU to get an education. We already have too many SH's runny around here (sarcasm).

See if this hypothetical makes you feel better: what if your favorite pro-sport team suffered a natural disaster that destroyed their staduim, and the tax payers decided not to foot the bill - the owner couldn't afford to renovate or build a new stadium by himself, so the team is moved. Do you follow the team in the new city, follow the old division/conference, stop following the sport. . .?

I think with the flooding still at its peak, it's just a little too early for these types of hypotheticals. But that's a whole new can of worms I guess.

It might hurt recruiting.

But an earthen dam downstream would make a really, really nice "Iowa City Lake and Water Recreation Area."

I am a Cleveland Browns fan so this is not a hypothetical to me, they did move to Baltimore in '95 (Art Modell will burn for eternity if there is any justice) and I could barely watch the NFL while they were gone, and I certainly would never cheer for the Ravens.

It would be funny if the Cy-Hawk game had to be played at JT this year, however, it would take more than a flood to completely destroy U of I.

I would probably cheer for Texas or a Florida school since I have roots in both places. It wouldn't be the same as cheering for the Cyclones though.
man, for someone posting a hypothetical question that would seem pretty safe he sure is getting a lot of flaming. Not gonna lie, it is kinda ridiculous. Gonna have to +rep him just cause I feel bad for him. Didn't any of your mothers tell you if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it at all?
