Good! That's how this should be done.

I respect them a lot for the way they stuck to their guns on this one.

This is great. Between the NCAA and NFL, the word contract has lost a lot of it's credibility. This is a step in the right direction.

Shouldn't he have bargained for Michigan to pay this amount as part of his new contract? Sounds like somebody needs a new agent. Glad WVU stuck to their guns. Guy seems like a ***** anyhow. I think he took all his documentation about player's progress with him when he left. Way to care about your school there bud.

A part of me wants to say yes Michigan should've helped. I mean they did decide to hire a guy that is already employed, but aren't most higher profile schools going to do that.

In the end it was Rodriguez's choice to leave, all Michigan did was offer the job. So I think this allows Michigan to not feel obligated to have to pay anything.

Maybe now this will help force coaches to fulfill their contracts before moving on.

It's fair to say that coaches have about 4 million reasons to think reeaaalllllly carefully before jumping ship like this guy did.

Will be interesting to see what kind of precedent this sets.

For all we know - they are. Just not in any way known to the public.

I don't think coaches should HAVE to fulfill their contracts...better jobs will come up and coaches will always move on. But if they do choose to leave, hopefully they know they will be paying money to buyout their contract...just like the school does when they fire someone.

I think MU should pay all of it. If they want RR to make the jump at this juncture in the middle of his contract, they should pay the fee. MU never bucks up and always thinks they should get a discount, because they're Michigan. They just really bother me. Oh, maybe its because I'm an OSU fan, but still, quite being a cheap-o when you're the one with all the money.
