April Evaluation period abolished

The NCAA got rid of the April spring evaluation period, which means college coaches will only have the July period to evaluate, apparently because a few coaches were making "illegal contact" with recruits at the games. This is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard of. Now, instead of punishing a few coaches and handing down sanctions, they are punishing everyone. This really hurts ISU, since we need all the time we can get on the recruiting trails, especailly to find recruits that are under the radar.
This is a stupid decision by the NCAA, and just shows their loopy, crazy, logic.

what does this mean exactly? because they can still contact them. what exactly happens during an evaluation period?

The coaches can watch the players as often as they like, at open gym's, AAU tournaments especially, etc. Now, they won't be able to attend those AAU tournaments, which will also hurt the tournaments, their sponsors, and the surrounding areas, and will have a bad economic impact, to boot.

You know, I hate Zook as much as the next guy. He tried to ruin the Gators twice (once as DC and another as HC) but from people I have talked to inside the department he does everything by the book. He may be creative about the boundries of the rules but he just plain works harder at recruiting then most coaches are willing to. You have to give him some credit for that...

Billy has had alot of eyes on him ever since Eddie Fogler flat out called him a cheater. It would be really hard for him to get away with any funny business.

Florida was VERY close to the death penalty in the 80's and they do not want to take any chances.
