Re: Volleyball semi-finals
Nebraska shanked a couple passes in that last set and let PSU go on a 5 point run that basically sealed their fate.

I don't think there's much of a chance that the IHSAA adds another sport, but I could see it as a club sport.
Re: Volleyball semi-finals
We watched it as well. It was very exciting and I must say that my Big 12 bias left me a little disappointed. The way Nebraska came back from being down 2-0 was quite impressive. Lots of fun!!!

In the first game, Texas was up 2-0 on Stanford and then Stanford won 3 straight sets to win the match - first time in 26 years there has been a comeback like that in the semi's.
In the second match, Nebraska was up 2-0 on Penn State, who had not even lost a single set since last seasons national championship match! Penn State won 3 sets in a row and ended up winning 3-2.
There was over 17,000 people in attendance and the crowd was deafening. Volleyball is starting to get very popular, I wouldn't be surprised to see it starting to become an option for boys in the near future (in Iowa).
I live and breathe volleyball. Too bad Iowa State doesn't have men's vb.
In volleyball, its all about momentum and coaching. Players can add to that by playing smart.
I agree, volleyball is becoming a big sport. I live in St Louis and its HUUUUGE in this area.

I would be very disappointed in the IHSAA if they don't add boys volleyball as a sanctioned sport in the next five years. So many high schools or areas already have their own club teams, it's ridiculous. Even when I was in high school, we were able to find enough guys in our conference that wanted to play VB that we formed our own club league. Out of the 14 schools in our conference, we started with 7 teams and finished with 9. We arranged our own practice times, competition schedules, transportation, refereed each other's matches, everything. This was a relatively successful program run from the ground up by high school boys between 15 and 17! If there is that much motivation, then the state needs to sanction it as a varsity sport.

It's huge among adults in the DSM area as well. I just picked it up about 5 years ago and now play year round. Mens doubles in the summer and 2-3 indoor leagues throughout the winter season. I enjoy it so much, I wish it would have been available as a youngster which is why i see it becoming possible for the next generation of boys because of interest from the adults.

I'm at a loss. The day my son says "Dad, I can't decide, Volleyball or Soccer?" is the day I lose it.

I find this very interesting about volleyball, both when playing it or watching it. Momentum is so important. I thought the commentators of the matches last night made good points about a block is usally good for more than 1 point. It really seems like the sets hinge on a huge block at an opportune moment.
