Are the BYU and Utah coaches typically Mormon or not?
Do they get to pop a top after a great victory, or do they simply have a quiet dinner at home with their wife(s)?

Wow, this thread probably won't turn extremely offensive extremely quickly.

Not sure, but I do remember reading somewhere that Whittingham is a BYU alum.
Not everyone in Utah is Mormon, and not all Mormons are as crazy as you may have heard - wearing the long underwear all the time, no matter the weather, not allowed to drink caffeine, all the beer in Utah is 3.5 ABV or less, and so on.

maybe I went to the wrong school in Iowa. Why is it that I can only engage Hawk fans in conversation?

I'm not saying that I don't like Paul Rhoads as a coach. I just don't get why we didn't at least try for him. I just I still think that we should of at least tried to get Whittingham as a head football coach.

Hey, I was right, he is a BYU alum. Considering that their rivalry is much more intense than Iowa/ISU, I can imagine he doesn't have many friends in Provo. Kyle Whittingham - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia -

I would hope that Pollard was able to take the temperature of agents representing guys like Whittingham, C Peterson, and Patterson to determine if they had a potential interest. I would be very disappointed if that wasn't a step in the process.

He knows the area and the culture, and knows how to recruit that region. He's just proven that it's easier to get to the BCS from Utah than it is from Iowa State. Utah has more success, recently and historically, than Iowa State. And I don't think Iowa State could necessarily offer him a monetary package that's all that much better than what he's making at Utah.
For all we know, Pollard placed that courtesy call to Wittingham, who quickly replied with a "thanks, not interested." But even if Pollard didn't make that call, I wouldn't blame him. It's not like we had any shot with him to begin with.
BvK, you've got to quit making so much sense because I "must spread some rep around" before giving more to you. (Original quote by wonkadog.) -

What I'm saying is I'm just dissapointed that Whittingham didn't have an interview with Pollard or anything. Even though Whittingham probably wouldn't have come anyway, I would of liked to hear about a call place to Whittingham or something.

On a semi related note, I believe Mike Leach is mormon.
