Psh, this is waaaaaay more fun ;)
The Big 11's second best team once scored 33 points in a whole game.
I think both conferences are down, but looking around the NCAA, the SEC seems way down, the PAC 10 seems down...even the MVC is bad. Are only the Big East and ACC up this year? Any other conferences?

If they matched up today on neutral courts, Big 12 would be favored in 9 of the 11 games.
do you stop watching basketball after the first couple weeks of the season? According to you in 1999 the MVC was better than the Big 12 b/c their worst team (Drake) beat the Big 12's best team (ISU).
There is a reason that the selection committee looks heavily on the last 10 games. It is the most meaningful. I personally think that the Big 10 is slightly better this year...maybe. Neither conference is great this year.
Big 10 - More decent teams
Big 12- Best team (OU)
I think we'll see in the NCAA tournament how bad the Big10 really is. They returned a lot of players and got some non-conference wins as other teams were getting used to playing with each other. (see Michigan/Duke) Once the NCAA starts the Big10's "great" defenses will be exposed when they play against some athletes that can create plays. There just aren't any of those guys in the Big10 right now and it shows in their scoring.
5-2 doesn't really tell much of a story. You know how many of those games were played on a Big 12 court? Zero.
We'll see, of course, when the tournament comes around, but I would be surprised to see more than one Big 10 team get past the 1st weekend. When the Big 12 has 3 Sweet Sixteen teams and a Final Four team in a down year, we'll know for sure.
Right now, you can argue it either way. Unbiased, statistical rankings give a slight edge to the Big 12. Head-to-head games on neutral and Big 10 courts with top-tier Big 10 teams facing all sorts of Big 12 teams seem to favor the Big 10.
We'll get a better answer in a couple weeks, but for now, it is close.
Purdue might be a top 10 team if they had Hummel healthy. He missed a few games and Purdue struggled but now he is back and they have been playing well again. They beat OSU by 20+ today I think. Mizzou and Purdue would be a good game that could go either way. Purdue could play with any team in the Big 12 and I think when Mizzou is on the same could be said for them against the Big 10.
Mich St is a good team but they are far from unbeatable.
The middle of the Big 10 is much stronger than the middle of the Big 12.
We can all agree that both conf are not close to the Big East.
two 14-15 teams arguing which conference is second or third best in the country. What a boring season it has been.
