announced it thirty minutes before the players reported for spring practice tonight.
Considering that I just finished the new NIACC Rec Center (project architect) and the football program was a an integral part of the design consideration, this was a shocker to me this afternoon also. Sad day for NIACC athletics. And they just hired a new wrestling coach yesterday.
Rough time for that announcement.
WOW that bites.
That is to bad. I would assume that is part of the fallout from the recession. Its unfortunate when opportunities for young people are eliminated do to budget shortfalls.
Couldn't they just make another women's team?:jimlad:
That blows for the recruits.
Yes:jimlad:
They had a pretty decent program, too. Always good when I was around there.
Man that stinks. Lived in Mason City for 11 yrs and enjoyed going to the NIACC games every once in a while.
NIACC also got one heck of a wrestling coach in Steve Kelly. He was a little younger then I but I grew up with his older brothers and that family has quite a few state championship titles wrestling at Britt. I am happy for him.
Geez, did Coach Mac have something to do with this too? I can't see any other reason for it to be in the MBB Forum. Guess everything that happens bad is his fault after all. :jimlad:
NIACC had to cut $800,000 total from budget for next year. Cutting football saves about $175,000.
I agree the timing could have been better, but there was an artificial deadline of knowing where cuts would be made; that deadline was March 15th (by contract, faculty had to know their status for next year by that date).
Adrian Peterson willing to donate 150,000 to NIACC to keep the program going for another year
