Billy Gillispie fired at Kentucky

They fire a coach because he didn't make the NCAAs for the first time in however many years, and the number one name on their list is a coach who didn't make the NCAAs this year?

First call I make is Calipari.

That is way different. UNC is HIS school. He is and always was a tar heel. Donavan is a conference rival with no affiliation to UK.

That's assuming he wants to leave Memphis. He owns his weak conference and that conference doesn't detract from the national respect that Memphis gets. Recruits poor into Memphis and he seems to get a Sweet Sixteen seed every year. He's pretty much got a job for life at Memphis if he wants it. Where's the security at UK? 2 subpar seasons (and it's going to take longer than that to clean up the mess there) and he's out without a job. I just don't see it.

Oh, I know, but they have to make all the calls they can. Donovan is definitely someone that you call.

cybsball----I wouldn't want it either. I enjoy Florida basketball, and there's no way that Billy showing up in Lexington last time for an interview helped recruiting.

At Kentucky you are the man.

At Florida you play second fiddle to football no matter how good your basketball team is.

How many people attended Florida basketball games when they won their national championships? How many people attend Kentucky basketball games?

I think the only attraction to UK for a successful coach like Calipari right now will be the big fat pile of money they'll have to offer...

I love how I have become a topic of conversation in this thread...hilarious.

One thing is certain, if I was in the coaching profession I sure as hell would not shy away from a great job like the UK job just because the expectations are enormous...that would be where I would want to be...somewhere that the expectations are incredibly high.

Bonnie Bernstein asked him minutes after his team lost in the tournament. Her asking him that was like Jim Gray going after Pete Rose during the World Series a few years back. Roy's outburst was understandable, considering the circumstances.

They courted him before, and he turned it down.
