Big Ten is 10-5 against the Big 12, so you trying to argue that Purdue would be "Middle of the pack" in that conference is ludicrous, and I think you will find very little support, even on this board.
To further my argument. Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Texas couldn't even beat Michigan State. Missouri couldn't even beat Illinois. Kansas State and Iowa State couldn't even beat Iowa. Baylor couldn't even beat Penn State.
Northwestern won at Mich St. for crying outloud! If a National Power like the Wildcats can come into E. Lansing and take one away... I think the tarheels aren't going to have to much of a problem in this game. I'll give Mich St. some credit... they didn't make the championship game because they are bad. But the tarheels are just too deep, and to talented for Izzo's team.
They have alreay played once this year and I think it may have been at Ford Field. UNC just crushed Michigan State that night. I know Michigan State didn't have Sutton but I don't think that he's worth the 20 plus points they got beat by. This game will be interesting if UNC controls the tempo then they will win big. If MSU can slow it down then they have a shot.
Only chance MSU has against these teams is to slow it down. Yes they got some fast break points against UCONN, but that is b/c they slowed it down and took UCONN out of their offense. That created TO's which led to some points
Like him or hate him, Tom Izzo is maybe the best "1" game coach there is in the country. He knows how to manipulate refs, and as we all know from 2000, that is big. Roy Williams is a great guy and doesn't get on refs as bad as Izzo, so say what you want, but that has an impact.
UNC won 98-63 in Ford Field, on a different floor (no big deal) in December.
Last year the stars lined up for KU, and I think they do for MSU this year. UNC has more talent, but MSU has MOE.
MSU by 3
Louisville shot 66 and 65 shots in their previous 2 games against Zona and Siena. MSU SLOWED the game down and they only shot 47 times! The difference there is HUGGGEE
MSU does a great job of slowing down the tempo of the game and beating up on their opponents. They are your typical Big 10 team but they are better coached and more talented than the rest of them.
1) WHY on God's green earth would MSU want to slow the tempo of the game down and set up their half court offense when the other team has the best shot blocking center in the country?
2) Explain this quote: "The Spartans are veterans of the down-and-dirty Big Ten, but they can run some, too, and Izzo made no secret of his plan to use their speed to keep Thabeet out of his comfort zone." Link
Should probably pay attention to what's going on my friend. Maybe you were watching a different game, who knows.
Just what I said. They can run and got some fast break points against UCONN but they slow it down 90% of the time and will do so against UNC. To think any differently would be idiotic.
They slowed it down against Louisville, and Kansas who are more like UNC than UCONN is. SH said that MSU plays up tempo basketball. They do not.
just a few words here.
I HATE/DISLIKE A TON THE BIG 10.
