Mangino vs. Ferentz?
I know it's hard, but taking off the Iowa hate blinders, who would you rather have coaching ISU? Ferentz, or Mangino?

Re: Mangino vs. Ferentz?
Does this come with legal trouble or not SH?
Also, do we have to pay to feed either candidate?

Re: Mangino vs. Ferentz?
I thought this was going to be a thread of who has done more to dirty a program.
I'd say Ferentz, just because I know he won't eat me.

Re: Mangino vs. Ferentz?
I'll abstain from voting as a biased party, but here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Mangino has 33 wins in the last 4 years; Ferentz has 28 in the same time-span.
- When Mangino took over at KU, they had the worst talent and worst facilities in the conference.
- Mangino requires $2.3mil per year; Ferentz requires $3.3mil a year.
edit: fixed Ferentz's salary (in my defense, when I googled "Kirk Ferentz Salary," 4.6 was the first figure I saw.)

- Ferentz has 2 conference titles to Mangino's 0
- Ferentz has 3 top 10 finishes to Mangino's 1
- Ferentz has 4 bowl wins to Mangino's 2
And, I realize this thread was probably pretty stupid to create, because I doubt many people are going to vote for Ferentz, simply for the fact he's Iowa's coach.

I'm leaning towards Mangino...would they bring their same assistants? If so, then a definitive Mangino.

Re: Mangino vs. Ferentz?
You might as well ask if we'd rather have Jim Walden or a bag of gummy bears coaching our team. I would take Ferentz, but not at his salary. Mangino had a very good QB turn around his program when he was 1 year away from getting fired.
I do appreciate the effort of you bringing up actual sports topics, unlike many threads we will be seeing soon in the dog days of spring/summer.

Re: Mangino vs. Ferentz?
At ISU I would take Mangino since he resurrected a program from the cellar.
At a more prominent program it would be about even, but I wouldn't be crazy about either.

Kansas has a track around their field. That should say a lot.

Re: Mangino vs. Ferentz?
Paul Rhoads.
Why even ask this question? It's not happening either way.

Re: Mangino vs. Ferentz?
As someone who does not hate the Hawks....... I would pick Mangino. I am really impressed with what he has done at KU.

Actually, that embarrassment to modern college football might be coming out in the next few years. Still, KU plays in a stadium that was originally built almost 90 years ago. Pathetic.

Re: Mangino vs. Ferentz?
I'm going w/Mangino, because Kansas was way farther in the dumps when he took over than Iowa was. Also, Mangino has won a BCS bowl. He's finished w/1 loss. Ferentz has never won an outright conference title, so I don't think he really holds a big hammer over Mangino in that respect. I would also take Ferentz over McCarney or Chizik, so its not "hate blinders". I hope 5 years from now I can say I would take Rhoads over Ferentz but only time will tell. As far now, at ISU, I would rather have Mangino over Ferentz.
