Notice how they're all programs with high degrees of success at one point or another. I can't believe they left Nebby of the list though.
Notre Dame fans have not been talking trash for many years. Although the Cyclones are my favorite team, I also have been a fan of Notre Dame for 25+ years. The only time the Irish get brought up by fans talking amongst themselves is when total haters want to rant about their "special status". They are completely right about unfair advantages though. Undeserved pre season rankings, over 7 billion trust fund, TV contract, BCS benefits, it is all true. But not one and I mean not one football program in this country would turn that down or trade places in an instant. That leads me to believe that the hatred must only come from jealousy. What else could it be? It is not because they beat everybody, it is not because they have the greatest facilities or located in a great climate or town, and it definately is not because they get their choice of any athelte in the country. Look at their acceptance standards. At least ask yourself this question as an Iowa State fan the next time someone wants to trash ND. Would you put South Bend's arrogance above lets say Nebraska? Iowa? Oklahoma? Texas? etc, etc, etc...........
........Jealous :wink::wink:Quote:
Yes, nice try though.
In the grand scheme of things, Iowa isn't that bad. To non-rivals, they are pretty similar for the most part as we are. It just gets annoying locally, but it's part of having 2 BCS teams in the same state....
I'm not too surprised that Florida is on the list, but I don't agree with the "their fans live in the past" comment -- in the last few years they've two BCS championships plus an NCAA basketball tournament. If they're obnoxious so be it -- I'd say they're living in the present.
Florida State and Clemson are the fan bases that are living in the past.
Iowa would be on there if their programs had ever been national powers the way the 10 teams listed are, or have been in the past.
Nebraska is probably omitted for a couple of reasons: They would only be on the list for football, while most of the schools on there are or have been known as powers in multiple sports over the years. And their fans may seem condescending to us, but on the larger scale I think the Big 8-to-Big 12 change has hit them with a dose of reality: whether they admit it or not, it's clear that they have their hands full with the Big 12 North and will always be looking up at Oklahoma and Texas.
Fuskers are the worst by far
If no Nebraska then it really isn't a complete list. No way they should ever be left off that list.
I for one hope that ISU can make a list like this someday!
Every team on this list has won a National Championship in FB. In fact, every team on this list has won multiple National Championships in FB except for Clemson. As Babe Ruth once said "It ain't bragging if you can do it!"
A few musings:
+ Florida "living in the past"? Why the hell do they have to do that having won the NC 2 of the last 3 years? The writer is way off base with this line...believe me, they are living in the here and now.
+ Clemson is strikingly similar to ISU in terms of the make-up of the school, the students, the alumni, the setting, etc. The only real difference is they have traditionally had success in FB and we have not.
+ All of these school have the "swagger" that many on this site have opined about wanting ISU to have. It would appear that one man's obnoxiousness is another man's swagger.
Kentucky basketball fans are easily the worst and there is nobody that is even close.
