Elligability Rules

I was watching Mike and Mike this morning and the guest hosts were talking to Urban Meyer and showing their mancrush with Tebow as usual. One point that Meyer caught my attention. Apparently Tebow has already graduated and is only taking one class this fall. Why does the NCAA allow this? I would think that a player would at least have to be a full time student to be able to play for a team. Any thoughts on what the NCAA could do to close this loophole? Maybe require any graduated player to make progress towards some post-grad degree.

I know undergrads have to be full-time students (12 credits). That's why when Brackins dropped Geology last spring he had to pick up another class.

Well keep in mind that it is the SEC afterall. I'm sure the NCAA requires you to work towards a post grad (masters). Maybe coach wasnt very clear. I'm sure other know more.

In 2005 Matt Leinart was only enrolled in Ballroom Dancing.

I do know that most schools try to keep guys from taking too many classes so they don't overload themselves in season. But I don't know why the NCAA doesn't require athletes to be full-time status. Maybe there is a special situation for early grads?

We have had many 5th year guys taking only classes like golf, scuba, etc...

I believe the ruling is that you must be making adequate progess toward an undergraduate degree. If you already have the degree, all you need to be is enrolled in the school. Heck it is saving money for the program that he isn't taking 4 graduate level classes.
