But my friend who is a Hawk fan told me that Iowa City is the best place to experience the college football atmosphere...
Iowa City is not even in the top 4 of the Big Ten for atmosphere. Put State College, Madison, Columbus, and Ann Arbor ahead of Iowa City.
I have high hopes for Dinkytown in Minneapolis since it is less than 3 blocks from the new stadium. It will not compare to the towns I listed above, but could resemble Iowa City to an extent because of their very close proximity to TCF Bank Stadium. U of M has over 45,000 students and 50,000+ people in attendence will want something else to do one they leave the stadium after a game.
I love camp randall. Never been there for a game, but i've been there a couple times for another event (that also involved a lot of drinking), i dont see how you can not have a good time there. Have wanted to go see a game there for awhile.
This is what you have to look forward to in Madison. A couple friends went to the Iowa vs Wisconsin game there 2 years ago and they said it was simply amazing when they do Jump Around. You could feel it all around the stadium.

Was at the ISU game in Madison in '93. Incredible atmosphere. All the tailgating we did was at houses surrounding the stadium. Great fans and great time, though we lost.
For the OP, the best pre-game or game time party area will be right around the stadium, which is almost a mile from State St. Bars that are fun in the area are - Jordan's Big 10, Lucky's, and Stadium Bar. Also near Camp Randall is the famed "Mickies Dairy Bar" Consider breakfast sunday morning somewhat early (before 10 am).
Post-game, check out the bars on University (near State St.) between Lake and Francis. Some are: Church Key, Wando's, Brothers, Madison Ave, Johnny O's, Vintage, Red Shed, etc. On State, (near the University Ave. bars) are Brats, Mondays, and many more.
Fans will be good if you wear red - shouldn't be a problem right? They will be mean to Hawk fans... which is priceless. Should be a good game this year - I will give an early edge to the Hawks, but not by much.
My wife and I make a trip to Camp Randall once a year. It's always a great atmosphere. I've been there for Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota games. The best are Iowa and Michigan. Badgers HATE those schools. Iowa fans show up and are obnoxious, loud, disrespectful and as usual, cocky. I enjoy watching them get put in their place.
The student section's activities alone throughout the game are well worth the price of admission.
Have a great time. What a great weekend of football.
Madison is off the freaking charts. My g/f is a badger alum and took me to a game 2 yrs ago. The game was a sleeper since they whooped up on N. Illinois, but the whole town goes crazy. They get behind their non-revenue sports very well also, including volleyball and hockey. I've been to quite a few college football scenes, and UW is tops by far. I someday hope to see a game there against a big time opponent. Does anyone remember the thread from a few weeks ago on an article about drinking in wisconsin? well, just mix in a little football with it and you get madison. It is a sea of red I actually like, as opposed to that disgusting h-hole an hour southwest of council bluffs. Wisco fans are just fun, as opposed to kNU fans who are all caught up in living the hypocrisy of being the "best fans in america."
PS- I'm bringing my g/f back for the Army game.... hoping she will like the JTS/ISU tailgate scene as well.... being a 6 pm game, it should be good.... c'mon fellow Clonies, don't disappoint!
The only thing better than Camp Randall is Lambeau field. I am truly jealous.
During the Game the Student sections M, N, O, and P are assigned by class Freshmen, Sophs, Juniors, and Seniors their chants are Witty and sometimes profane but enjoyable....(30,000+ students at Game)
After the Badgers win (we hope they do) then stay for the 5 th quarter show by the UW Band one of the best in the land....
Then down to State Street, maybe 20+ Bars and Restaurants in a 4 block strectch...
Does Wisky still do
F you eat 'poo'?
