Alamo Bowl to replace Big Ten with Pac 10?

I would prefer that the conference tie-ins to bowl games were eliminated. Then take all the bowl games, and have them offer up the bowl payouts. Go from the highest payout to the lowest payout. You could then have a live "draft" on tv with the bowl reps picking their games from all elligible teams and get new and unique matchups every year. As opposed to the same 2-3 teams going to the same 2-3 bowl games every year.

I would be for that. It more resembles the old system. And being an Iowa fan, I think the Hawks would benefit from a system like this given their traveling reputation. Iowa State travels well, too.

Here's the thing, does the Big 10 really want another one of it's schools to have to go out west to play a bowl game? At least if the game is in Texas, it's easier/closer travel and has more of a regional feel to it.

Isn't the Cotton bowl the only non BCS Big XII tie in bowl that is played on New Years day? This will be awesome, we'll have no New years day bowls that aren't BCS and the big 10 will probably manage to fill that spot by getting their 6-6 team to get a New Years day bowl.

I know, anymore it doesn't mean nearly what it used to, to play on New Years day, but honestly, it's a comment I hear all the time from Hawkeye fans. "We've played in X New Years Day Bowls." As much as I think the Cotton Bowl deserves BCS status, I'd hate to give up a true New Years Day Bowl.

Alamo is a New Years bowl beginning this year.

I don't see that as a problem - I don't anticipate USC playing in the Alamo Bowl anytime in the near future...

Looks like the Big 10 is close to sealing a deal with the Gator Bowl. If so bowl lineup would look like this...

1. Rose/Pac10
2. Cap One/SEC
3. Outback/SEC
4. Gator/ACC
5. Insight/Big 12
6. Texas/???

I say go with the white pants option....football uni's were made for contrast and white pants and red jerseys make for a very good midwestern contrasting colors....

Don't hurt me for this, but that's a shame. I really enjoyed the Holiday Bowl, and that back-to-back run of thrilling games that Iowa had there back in the late 80s were two phenomenal games.
