Re: I've lost nearly all faith in college football

I think the other Michigan players jumping around pointing the other direction probably influenced the officials' decision as well. It shouldn't, but that's why coaches teach their players to do it.

An absolutely horrible call. These officials should be publicly admonished.
I wish you would've put a disclaimer that the first thing to greet me in this video is Pam Ward's voice so I would've known to have the speakers off!

Wow... The play in question is at the very end of the clip above.

That most certainly did not influence the officials.
Speaking as a high school official, only one thing goes through your mind during the game: that you make the right call.
Now that every game is recorded by video, an official's only thought is that the tape backs him up. Nothing else - who is favored, the crowd, the coaches, blah, blah, matters. You want the video tape to support your call.

Did the video tape support the call in this case?

One of the most blasphemous calls I've ever seen. I went nuts when they gave the ball to Michigan and I don't give a hoot about either team.

No, to me it did not. But under the BIg Ten review policies, they were not allowed to overrule the possession as determined by the officials on the field.
My point was that officials are not swayed or motivated by the crowd, or the prestige of the team, or who the coach is. You're just not.
When you're sitting in the meeting room watching game tapes with your crew and/or your supervisor, nothing matters except did you the right call.

Which is exactly why dual possession goes to the offense, not to the defense. It was dual possession at the very worst when both players hit the ground. The fact it took several seconds for Michigan player to wrestle the ball away from Indiana player is clear evidence of that.
