I'll take an SEC/Big 10 slugfest any day over a 53-49 slopfest where there's no quality defensive play at all. If that's your thing, go watch Boise St. v. Hawaii and have fun. I like watching teams that actually put some emphasis on defense.
Of course you would, that's all you got

Some high-profile BCS bowl losses? What was the score of the Iowa - USC Orange Bowl a few years back?
Right, because blind hatred of a team/conference is a much more accurate gauge on how good that team/conference is than polls.

    38-17.

It was 10-10 at the half. They didn't kill us the entire game, just the second half, which, yes, was ugly.

Why? Jacksonville sucks as a bowl destination. The Holiday Bowl is way better in every aspect, once you get over the meaningless New Year's Day bowl mentality. If it's not a BCS bowl, who cares about playing on New Year's Day -- I would rather go to the Holiday Bowl than play at 9AM on New Year's Day with a TV audience divided between 3 simultaneous bowl games played at that time so they are off the air by the time the important bowls start.
Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

Jacksonville is an awesome Bowl destination. You have great beaches, the Landing, and the best golf in the world. Tons of stuff to fill your time with. What more could you want?

Plus, my dad has a house a block from the beach and I would love to take it over for a week with a ton of my friends.

    Can I get an invite?

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

The mean temperature in Jacksonville on January 1 is 54 deg F. Great destination in November or February? Maybe. But not a great Jan 1 bowl destination.

You're right, I guess they should put all the bowl games in San Diego.
