This whole thing boils down to revenue. The mid-majors want more revenue from the bowl system. It has nothing to do with prestige or anything else. It's all about money. If TCU or Boise State could deliver more revenue to the bowl organizers than Miami or LSU, they would be sure locks. This is one of the best things to cheer for - BCS fallout. I hope we have 3 or 4 undefeated teams when all the games are over.

Re: How is this even possible???
Would love to see TCU and Cincinnati be in the BCS Championship IF they are the better teams...But noone would go to it. With teams like Florida Alabama and Texas there it has more of a money making scheme for the BCS.
Think...Florida Loses a game so does Texas and Alabama..then you wind up with undefeated teams of TCU Cincinnati, and Boise State....Would they move up? NO because they suppsedly dont deserve it....for reference see the other BCS Championship. Its a way to make the popularity contest work. The rich get richer and the poor stay there POOR. In my opinion....B.C.S. stands for a Big Crock of Sh*t Championship. Till these things change to another format...it will always be popularity over teams that may desrve to be there but cant go cause they are not the Floridas, USC's, Iowa States or teams like that.

If TCU and Boise State were ranked 1-2, they would play in the BCS championship. That is up to the coaches poll and computers (who are entirely objective) to decide.
The ENTIRE point of the BCS is to put 1 vs. 2 and keep the rest of the BCS bowls happy, since the are essentially meaningless to the title. The system to rank the teams has always been flawed, IMO, and until they get rid of the human polls, it always will be.
There is absolutely no fair way to get to a national championship with the current conference structure. It just isn't ever going to work. If you give the mid majors an easier route to the championship, it isn't fair to the teams in the major conferences that have to play a tougher schedule. If you leave it like it is, it clearly isn't fair to the mid majors because most of them don't have a way to jump over those BCS conference teams.
I'm sorry, but an undefeated BCS conference team will, 99 times out of 100, be better than an undefeated mid major team, and will always be a bigger draw.
I, for one, actually like the BCS and think it keeps the regular season the most meaningful in all of the sporting world.

Re: How is this even possible???
FYI: the WHOLE system is designed to keep the rich, rich.
1) preseason polls to keep the haves closer to the top early so they can absorb a loss.
2) bowl games getting an extra month of practice. some teams have literally had years of more football than other programs.
3) BCS. Rewards the power teams from power conferences even if they aren't the best.
4) Conferences. Make sure that the big schools get featured and get guaranteed bowl slots and ready made fodder for opponents without having to play a whole season of other elite teams. Keep teams like Boise State marginalized.
5) TV. Makes sure that the elite teams stay featured on TV to help recruiting and overall appeal to casual fans.
6) Bye weeks. Texas will never see a last week bye week.
7) Scheduling. You'll never see Texas in Ames in November.
When Iowa State makes a bowl...even a Boise bowl it is a BIG deal. We have to overcome so much more with so much less than an elite program that it truly is an accomplishment.
