Re: Brian Kelly says Notre Dame job will be decided in next 7 to 10 days
Here's my problem, and this is JMO...
I don't think an SEC coach can win at Notre Dame. Why? Academics.
Someone has to explain to me why Meyer/Miles/Saban et al would want to leave their respective SEC school, where they can sign a kid with a 1._ GPA, have someone take their SAT, put them in underwater basket weaving with a full-time tutor. That flies in the SEC, it won't at Notre Dame. Lot harder to win when you're recruiting not for speed or power, but GPA as well...I have a feeling that's why Hawkins is failing at CU, as well. Those players who slipped through the Pac-10 academic cracks that he got at Boise don't qualify at CU.
But again...JMO...

Figured he'd be somewhere a little more high profile at this point in time. Yeah, I don't know. That defense he had a Michigan was pretty good and there were not a ton of NFL guys on it. He will get a big gig sometime.

But again...JMO... Ego. Urban may want a new challenge. 3 out of 4 Championships possibly. It may be time for him to prove he can do it at a harder place to do it. That is the only reason I could see him leaving. The other two I don't see leaving unless Miles gets a call from Michigan.

But again...JMO... Same thing applies to Kelly or any other Big East coach to boot.

ND wants a defensive coach huh???
This fits the bill...Notre Dame: FootballScoop we are hearing that Notre Dame officials have been gathering information on former Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick.

Now, if he is gone after next year, here is the problem with Les Miles. He hasn't made a ton of progress. Yes, LSU competes year in and year out, but they have failed to win big games since their NC and other coaches are rising. Harbaugh, Kelly, Chris Peterson, Turner Gill. Honestly I don't think LSU fans would be all that disappointed to see him leave. For now, RR isn't going anywhere. If he does, my guess is that they go back to Ron English if he doesn't get a big job by then. We will just have to wait and see. Here's the difference, though - all those guys you mentioned were "Michigan" guys. Michigan fans and admin were willing to give those guys more time to get it done because they were one of their own. RichRod is the furthest thing from a Michigan guy - he's an outsider. He was an unpopular hire for a lot of people from the beginning, and as such has a much shorter leash than any of those other guys had.

I can't think of another major program that has done a worse job of going after coaches who have had success in their prior positions, but were simply not the right fit for the job. Why would Notre Dame give even a passing thought to hiring another coach who has never been a head coach at a D1 program?
